Brakes are probably the most important safety feature on your car. Why in god's name would you put a half-azzed kit together from another car when you have a perfectly functional one already on your car? Yeah it's not that pretty, but it works. Just get the Sports Package Akebonos and call it a day. Not saying it wouldn't work with some fabrication, but why risk it to save a few bucks?

I tend to agree here, The base brakes are kinda Okay, But if you're looking for better braking power with not such a pia to install the Akebono's are the next best thing.

Are the Akebono brakes suitable for track use?

For the weekend warrior? Yes

You just need to upgrade the pads if you're really going to push.

The brake fluid is a must though

Switching to ss brake lines, And 2 piece rotors wouldn't hurt either

But that depends if you decide to track often

Like Trips said. In order of importance.
1. Good brake fluid
2. Pads
3. Stainless lines
4. Ti pad heat shield shims (helps keep the heat out of the caliper)
5. Brake cooling ducts. (this is for any brake set-up on the Z)
6. 2 piece rotors if your budget alollows for them.

Keeping heat out of the caliper is keeping heat in the pads. This is a big trade off on pad life. Good calipers and fluid is part of the overall heatsink system.

You ever boiled your brake fluid during a trackday? I'm not the only one on this forum that using them.

THIS

plus the brembos on the gen coupe fade really easily, in fact its a known problem with the gen coupe with the brembo brakes and iirc the 350z brembos had a lot of fade as well

honestly OP, if you want an aftermarket brake kit, get AP racing brakes or if you want a set of factory brakes, get the sport package brakes
