SPL suspension

So I accidentally ordered the wrong parts from Fredbeans -- no fault of theirs, just my own stupidity. I got SPL toe links and I REALLY wanted to get SPL rear camber links. I've placed an order for the correct parts.

I would like to keep both parts if I can use them, but from my understanding the toe links replace the mid link and can only be installed on coilover systems? Suspension guru's please chime in.

if you are using a true coil over spring coilover then yes you can use their toe links. if not then you need these to adjust toe.....

Thanks, looks like I'll be shipping the toe links back then. I don't plan on doing coilovers this year.

synolimit 07-23-2013 03:47 PM

How bad does the toe get when lowered? I thought camber was mostly effected.

sig11 07-23-2013 05:37 PM

My toe is pretty much normal and I'm way way too low!

synolimit 07-23-2013 06:37 PM

OP you buying the eccentric lockout kit too? I just found the bolts the kit uses for like $2 each and the little squares are about 1.34-1.33" which you can cut and drill once you buy a piece of t6061 about 1/4" thick. Who the f would pay $72 for 4 bolts?

You can keep the toe in check without any aftermarket toe adjustment for the most part. You will just have to play with the camber settings to try to get the toe in spec. That will in turn make you run some decent negative camber though (around -2ish depending how low you go).

The SPL toe links dont have a perch for the factory placement of the springs. The SPL midlinks that Fuct posted can be used with OEM style coilovers. I dont think they are compatible with non-coilover styled springs though. I could be wrong, wouldnt be the first time. It doesnt help that the SPL midlinks are $720 lol.

Yeah that's crazy! Hopefully once lowered all that's needed is the rear arms for camber. -2 front, -1 rear for the street should be fine with toe hopefully being close to zero. For a track I'd like to see maybe -3 front, -2 rear.

im dropped 1-1/2" maybe and my camber up front after an alignment is -1.7. i cant adjust it anyways so toe is whats most important to me.

I bought the normal SPL toe bolts w/o lockout plate. Can you send me more info on the bolts and plates?

Can you measure the plates and bolt length?

The camber bolt is 3.60" long overall so I'd guess 85mm for the threads and 0.46" thick. the rear arm is 3.98" long overall so I'd guess 95mm for the threads and 0.46" thick. That's a M12 bolt! Best length I could find is a 90mm and 100mm and thread you can get whatever you want since you'll buy a nut to fit, 1.50 or 1.75. The stock nuts might fit one of the threads but I'm not taking it off to find out since the alignment can move. The 5mm longer length is ok too since the plates are thick and you won't bottom out the threads since its a small margin.

You need a M12 in either thread that's a 10.9 hardness. That's basically a grade 8 but metric hardness. You cant use a grade 8 standard bolt because they come in different thicknesses. 0.43" is the only one to fit and it'd be to small.

These bolts are at advanced auto normally in stock. Just ask for m12 1.75 x90 and 100 in 10.9. Part numbers are 99127090 and 99127100 . I'm not sure if these have the large built in head washer so you might need to buy some washers. These bolts are $1.29 each!! Fastenal has the built in washer bolts for $5.55 each, part number 11115702 and 11115650.

As for the plates...the width between the subframe notches are about 1.33-1.34". Just buy a plate of T6061 aluminium and cut out 8 1.33-1.34" squares. I'd go with 1/4" thick plate so the bolts have a lot to rest on. Here's a plate 8x8" for $9.18.

Order Aluminum 6061 Plate in Small Quantities at OnlineMetals.com

Than all you need is to mark the centers then, use a 15/32 drill bit and boom, done. You'll maybe spend $25-40.

PS, SPL doesn't use washer bolts so just buy from AAP and use a washer. Lol I like how SPL gives you a washer nut but not a washer bolt. :icon14:

^^^ I was sent SPC toe bolts instead of SPL. Do we need to enlarge the hole w/ SPL like we do w/ SPC toe bolts?

synolimit 07-28-2013 05:21 PM

Enlarge which hole? The M12 is 0.46" wide and the stock bolts are 0.46" wide.

mag_black 07-28-2013 06:35 PM

NVM, the instructions I found online said to elongate the toe bolt hole and I assumed they were referring to bolt diameter, but after searching around, I understand what I need to do now.

Thanks for the info :tiphat:

So do you have a kit or just a bolt that has an offset for adjustment?

mag_black 07-30-2013 01:57 PM

Uploaded pic of my alignment done today. I have spl camber links installed and no toe bolts. I should've installed the damn toe bolts, but my Mech said he didn't want to install them because he preferred the OEM bolt over SPC.

Looks like I will do another alignment in the near future. Not top priority on my list.

But if you have the SPC, you have essentric bolts. If you have SPL, you have a kit that has zero adjustment. Any pics? Doesn't look he he did much, very low movement besides the toe.
