StopTech 4P Front & Rear BBK Install
Today was the beginning of a healthy list of installs on my Z.
This includes a StopTech BBK with a Stillen Front Brake Cooling Kit. http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...optech-bkk.jpg I chose the 4 Piston Calipers Front kit and 4 Piston Caliper Rear kit both with 14 inch slotted rotors. I didn't see the need to go 6P on the front; 4P is more than enough. Also I plan on getting 18 inch rims for the track so the 15 inch rotors were out. http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...front-left.jpg Front Left caliper and rotor. http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...ht-caliper.jpg 4P Front and Rear Piston comparison. Front Left (left caliper) Rear Right (right caliper) http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...ht-caliper.jpg 4P Front and Rear size comparison. Front Left (left caliper) Rear Right (right caliper) Today the original front brakes were taking off and the Stillen Font brake cooling kit was installed. http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...ke-cooling.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...ke-cooling.jpg Tomorrow the install continues with the front brakes. :happydance: More to follow! |
im a jealous of that bbk

nice looking brakes man! Im looking to do the same to mine. Hows the weight difference from stock to those?
|
Very very nice!

I'll try to weigh the rotors and calipers before they are put on. |
Dam those are cool
|
why did you buy those stoptechs if you already had 4 pot akebonos?

Our akebono kit seems to be heaver than just about every other BBK though. |

Pics first!
http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...inc-plated.jpg Front Left http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...nded-studs.jpg Rear Right with Z1 10mm spacer and extended studs. http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...r-19-vr-g2.jpg Front Right with my Volk Racing Type II G2s rocking new Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08s. http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...r-19-vr-g2.jpg Rear Right http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...optech-bbk.jpg Now for some numbers. Weight Please keep in mind that my OEM rotors have around 17K of use which includes more than a few track and autocross days. Also they have been resurfaced once. (Edit: all weights are individual weights so X2 for total savings) OEM SP Front Calipers 11.6 lbs Stoptech Front Calipers 8 lbs OEM SP Front Rotors 30 lbs StopTech Front Rotors 18.8 lbs OEM SP Rear Calipers 7.4 lbs StopTech Rear Calipers 5.9 lbs OEM SP Rear Rotors 20 lbs StopTech Rear Rotors 20.5 lbs Why the StopTech Rear Rotors weigh more than the OEM. http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...rear-rotor.jpg Also the hat on the StopTech rear rotor has more metal for the parking brake that's why the rear weighs more than the front. Calipers Piston Sizes OEM SP Front 38mm 40mm StopTech Front 40mm 44mm OEM SP Rear 37mm StopTech Rear 28mm 30mm Quote:
Also the StopTech calipers are lighter and have bigger pistons. While my StopTech BBK was being installed also installed MotorDyne ARTs and M370. http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...ordyne-art.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/vabam...e-manifold.jpg I'll be at ZDayZ this year if any of you want to check out my setup. Enjoy! |
Very nice.

The weight drop is dramatic. Nice!.

You could have just replaced the front rotors with an aftermarket light weight rotor. Those stoptech calipers aren't any more sturdy than akebonos since they arent an actual race caliper. For the $$$ I wouldnt have recommended this at all. Maybe if you stayed 4 pot but went with an AP racing caliper that is truely a lot more lighter weight and better built. But the specific brake kit you bought isnt going to gain you ANY performance difference than stock akebonos. You dropped what 3.5 lbs for $3,000? Also your piston size only went up a couple mm, also in no way going to show an improvement on the track at all. You would have seen MUCH better performance improvements while spending a lot less money by simply swapping rotors with a 2 piece DBA rotor, some aftermarket track pads, and high temp brake fluid, ss brake lines, and some brake cooling ducts.
Just my .2 but if you already had sports package brakes, this specific brake kit you bought is total waist of money and a little RICE if its just "#becausestoptech" |

Reaper,
When you posted that kit, I meant to warn you, with the 15" rotors and just a couple mm clearance between the caliper and the wheel, little rocks and crap are going to get stuck up in between them and make awful noises and scrape up the rim and caliper. I used to get black flagged for noise when I had similar clearance with the brembos I used to run. |

The same can be said about the 6P kits. Just for fun.:icon17: The following is just a piston surface area comparison only. I know there are a lot more factors that determine actual front to rear balance like rotor size. (Surface area numbers below are just one side of the caliper.) Hopefully my math is right.:icon14: StopTech BBK 4 Piston front 14" (355x32mm) rotor 40-44 2777.1 mm2 68% front 32% rear 6 piston front 15" (380x32mm) rotor rotor 30-34-36 2632.5 mm2 67% front 33% rear 6 piston front 14" (355x32mm) rotor 34-34-36 2833.6mm2 68% front 32% rear 4 piston rear 14" (355x32mm) 28-30 1322.5mm2 OEM SP 4 piston front 14" rotor 38-40 2390.7mm2 68.9% front 31.1% rear 2 piston rear 13.8" rotor 37 1075.2mm2 :stirthepot: |
Looks good man! Weight drop is really decent too!

Any pics with the OEM 18's ?

StopTech says 18's will clear the 14" rotor kit. I think Mike has experience running 18's with StopTechs. |
