Brake Cooling Duct Idea - 2013 Front Bumper
 

So I was kinda daydreaming at work today about eventually tracking my Z and was thinking about improving brake performance and cooling duct ideas in particular. Has anyone thought of deleting the front daytime running light strip and using that area as a means to increase air flow to the front fender? Maybe a vent of some sort can be fitted? This might be a half-a$$ :icon14: idea since I am not totally sure of what room is available in that area right behind the DRT's and the fender well.

I did search but couldn't find anything on the topic so I figured I would share my thoughts. :tup:

The first thing to do would be to take them out and see what is behind them area wise.
Then you have to determine if you can pipe air through it and get it to flow properly to the brakes. If not you can always take them out and have them pump air into the area and vent the fender liner, put an oil cooler off to the side to maximize air flow to the radiator & other coolers.

Without doing any work you might check to see in the manual if there is a break down of the new front bumper and see if the diagram has any detail pictures.

In my opinion, the LED slots are too small and irregularly shaped to efficiently provide sufficient cooling. They are also too far outboard and relatively high on the bumper. You'd have to come up with an interesting bracket to mount your hoses, and then route your hoses back in towards the center of the car only to bring them back out to mate up to your brake mount.

You'd be better off using the "fang" area to mount a vent to attach a hose. The routing would be much simpler as would the mounting system.

I want to do the same thing..... one day soon, when I'm bored, I'll open up
the fenderwell and have a look.

Brake ducting is not something you need to worry about for a long time if you haven't tracked your car before. That being said the fang area has the high pressure you need to do effective brake ducts.

2013/14 doesn't have the fangs.

Doesn't Stillen sell a kit for this?
