Brake Pad Change

Has anyone here in SoCal performed a brake pad/fluid change? I already did a search and didn't find anything helpful. I'm interested in learning how to do this procedure on my Z. Thanks!

Pad's are supper easy to replace. If you know how to replace pads on caliper type brakes, it's the same exact thing as you would on other cars. You can get aways with removing a single bold and swinging the caliper in place. The pads drop right in. Usually just need a few simple hand tools and a clamp to compress the piston. The fluid is a bit tricky, but buying a brake bleeder will make it much easier.

I've never done a brake pad change before so I have no prior experience.

I already read that forum posting; I was hoping for something a little more detailed and ideally with some pictures.

It seems that the Sport package brakes are also a little different than stock. Also one of the links that someone posted no longer works. I would hate to start the procedure and then get stuck.

This is the DIY for a rotor replacement to give you an idea of what's going on under there.

Plenty of videos on YouTube for general brake pad replacement. The one's on the Z with Sports Package are the same concept, but I believe the pads are held in w/ pins. Others will have to verify, but you may not even need to compress the piston(s) in the calipers. I'm assuming you still do however so the new pads can fit. AutoZone has brake repair tools you can borrow or you can just use some c-Clamps with some padding so you don't mess up the finish.

Yeah I agree, if its this much trouble you're better off having someone else do it or at least get someone experienced to help you do it yourself for the first time.

Yup that's me.

Yeah, I think I'll try to either have someone help or go to a shop and hopefully the guy will let me watch. Thanks for the responses.

hey martin! your Z sounds great on the track.

yes, I've been searching and I found some articles and saw some videos that people posted on other cars. hopefully I can find someone to help me out with the first pad and fluid change.

If you were in West LA or anywhere near id show you how to do it but OC is a bit far. Just like anything else with cars, do it once to learn how to do it, trial and error.

StopTech Street Performance. Seemed like a good blend of street/track.

If I came up to West LA, would you help me install the pads and change fluid?
