ABS Light
The ABS light, VDC light and skid light all came on this morning after working on my rotors last night. Is there a way for me to tell which wheel speed sensor is causing this?
silly question but is your fluid level correct?
Yes fluid is fine. I just put on new pads and rotors as well as was working on my brake ducts. So I had the front hubs off as well as banged on the rear rotors to get them off so I think any of the 4 wheel sensors could have busted. In the service manual it shows how to check but it requires a Consult III, which I don't have, to check the DTC.
Well luckily a mechanic friend has a Snap-On Verus and it was able to determine it is a sporadic left front wheel sensor. I will take off that hub tonight and try to fix it.
I had the same problem. Turned out to be tire marbles stuck up in there.
It is recommended to remove the wheel speed sensor before pulling the hub, there is a risk of damaging it otherwise.
Unfortunately the brake ducts are now in the way so it could get damaged just as easily by pulling the sensor before removing the hub. Same goes for installing the sensor after installing the hub.
It's not super fragile but doesn't like being smacked around too hard.
I have the same setup with the brake ducts, what I did was put everything in place loosely and then tighten them. For removal I remove the brake duct hose to give room to the wheel speed sensor. |
Well I couldn't pull the sensor out so I removed the hub and the sensor was bent and cracked. I bent it back and put everything back together and surprisingly the ABS/VDC/Slip lights went out and it works now. I suspect it won't last long though so I go try to find a used one cheap on car-part.com.
