KW V3 Rear Ride Height

I've noticed a lot of people on here also have the KW V3's so I'm hoping you all can help. I installed mine a few weeks ago and have never really been happy with how the rear sits. There are quite a few members that seem to be slightly lower in the rear than my setup (even though im maxed out). I'm not trying to *slam* my car but I would like to lower another half inch or so. I can comfortably fit 2 fingers between tire and fender right now running 305-30's and -1.2 degree's camber. I had swifts before and they seemed to sit just as high and I guess I expected the V3's to give me more adjustability back there. So, how are you all doing it, or is it just the angle of the pictures im seeing?

you should be able to just use the spanner wrenches and turn to adjust....I've got the V3s also and I can easily lower/raise by turning the perches to adjust. Other people might chime in....

Yeah I'm familiar with how they work as far as raising and lowering is concerned. I have the purple perch all the way as high as it can go on the collar but the car just doesn't seem to sit low enough, at least compared to the others that I've seen.

FireDan50 08-10-2012 02:01 PM

I dunno bro. Everything seated flush/right under the spring (big rubber thing)? Mine is this low and it can go even lower.

Yep! Rubber thing under the perch is seated properly. Your car was one of the ones I was referring to that appears to be lower than mine. The fact that you say you can go lower leads me to believe something on my end isn't correct. Did you remove any of the rubber stops on the strut that came with the KW? What's the finger gap on your rears right now based on that picture?

FireDan50 08-10-2012 02:13 PM

I'm pretty sure I didn't cut/remove anything from the KWs....i have about just one finger gap.

CorbinDallas 08-10-2012 02:39 PM

Hmm...curious on some other people's experience. It's annoying me to the point where I may end up getting rid of them for something else.

I'm wondering if people install the springs in that perch without the rubber guard at the bottom?

thats really odd...got any pics of your setup? i just checked mine and i have at least 1-1.5inches of thread left to lower the rear. i have about 1 finger gap of space also. only thing i can think of is that they gave you the wrong spring, or somehow you put the front spring in the rear and rear spring on the front..

anyway heres a crappy pic:

Thanks for that pic! I'm wondering if they sent me the wrong springs. I definitely installed the rear springs on the rear and the fronts on the front. They came packaged that way from KW. Here's some pics of mine...as you can see both sides are maxed out height wise.

Bump for someone's insight.

Morterbooble 08-12-2012 04:51 PM

Normally the printing on the springs are the other way. do you have them upside down.
Just trying to help.

They can really only go one way the other end has larger coils which don't fit in the top collar but it fits perfectly in the lower rubber mount.

Could you have a member thats not having issues compare the part #'s on the rear springs to make sure you have the right springs and not ones for a G? seems like that maybe the case

Could be the case, I didn't know there was a difference between the g and z kit. The box says 370 z34 but the springs could definitely be mis-labeled. Anyone care to compare for me?

chops 08-12-2012 11:43 PM

thats really odd..your car should be absolutely dumped with those settings! ill see if i can get under the car tomorrow and look at the spring. as for the z/g, its the same kit. no difference as far as i can tell.

Boost_lee 08-12-2012 11:50 PM

I think I remember the G37s had a similar issue with their BC coils.
Hope you get the spring situation figured out.

MY BC ERs have the same problem because they use a different stiffer spring. I had to remove 1 of the 2 perches to get at the max. low setting (0 gap, no tuck)

VoBoy 08-13-2012 12:02 AM

if you want to go lower, just remove the purple height adjustment ring all together, then you will be maxed out. a waste of v3 coilovers if all you're looking for is low though. they're near the bump stops your current height already.

edit: another reason to consider your "finger gap" comparison is that some ppl are running a larger circumference tire.

At this point I'm more concerned with figuring out if they shipped the set with the correct springs as it seems they did not. I'm going to contact KW. In the meantime if there is anyone thats under their car and could read me the serial on the spring for comparison I'd really appreciate it! I'm not going to remove the purple adjustment, and I repeat I don't want to slam my car, I'd like to lower it another 1/4 or so. I'm not riding on bump stops btw.

The pic showing your lower part. I have K1 and it's low in the rear. They have remove the rubber spring mount? looks like it's still there.

I'm not following you here at all...what is K1? The rubber spring mount at the top IS removed, the part your seeing in the picture is the molded piece of plastic that the purple collar spins up and down on. The lower rubber piece is supposed to be there where the coils meet the lower perch.

GTLAW 08-13-2012 03:26 PM

Sorry,

I have KW V1, my shop removed this rubber cone like thing from my car.

I thought that was still there.

Hey thanks for those pics they are definitely helpful! Your rear is definitely low it looks like you have room to go lower. Something isn't right with my setup, I just took the rear apart and sent pics to KW, hopefully they resolve it whatever it may be. BTW your G is very very nice looking!
