Recommendations please

I need a new set of front rotors as my stock rotors have been resurfaced twice. I am using Carbotech XP8 pads with my daily driver.

Slotted sounds good to me but I've heard too many negatives with drilled.

I would love some recommendations. I need to get on this by end of July. I have an HPDE event September 9.

Thank you.

get cryo treated regular rotors. save the money on other parts

DR_ 07-20-2012 02:42 PM

I would pick DBA 5000 two piece.

matcop 07-20-2012 10:46 PM

Try this set up.

Had Scott V over at Fontana Nissan set me up with this set up.

So far, no problems.

This kit includes:
DBA 5000 Series 2-piece Slotted Rotors -- Front
DBA 4000 Series 1 piece Slotted Rotors -- Rear
Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit -- Front and Rear
Endless MX72 high performance track pads -- Front and Rear
Endless RF650 High Temp Brake Fluid -- 4 bottles

I agree with this but I'm pretty sure its some serious $ correct?

IIRC Z1 sells the dba5000s for 650ish. Really nice two-piece.

Also IMO, yes I would stick to slotted if you are tracking it.

I think any quality directional rotors would work, perhaps the J hook rotors from Stillen? I agree stay away from drilled unless youre in the rain a lot.
Keep us updated on what you go with!

stillen J hooks are good or their slotted. like /\ above said, don't go wiht crossed drilled if you track.

Honestly, stockers are just fine too and crazy cheap and hold up quite well. There's nothing wroing with just going with the stock rotors again for this car.

PS--also running xp8's all the time on stock rotors for around 12K miles now. About to switch to xp10s for the front tho.

What's making you want XP10s in the front?

I am going with stock rotors and will cross drill them a little bit on a press. I will not have the machinist go crazy.

This does not start until next week so I am still taking advice.

cossie1600 07-26-2012 11:02 AM

definitely going to crack

I highly recommend you not do that. It does not reduce the weight by a significant amount and will cause stress risers (cracking) if you use them hard.

Are your brake ducts being fed into the center of the rotor? If so, you really should change from stock rotors as directional rotors would really benefit from your existing brake ducts. But then again the stockers are not bad by themselves either.

xp8's got overheated up front at a PDX this past saturday at sebring. wifey had a small "off track excursion". (no harm done thankfully). We are resisting running brake ducting at this time b/c we don't know how long we will hold onto the car and if it's only for a couple more years, as of right now, the nismo needs to have the bumper cut and that will limit potential future buyers as there's no going back from that.

/\ don't do it, you will def wind up cracking them first time you really go out on the track.

Thank you. I will not cross drill. But will use stock rotors due to low price.

Yes they are. Buying better rotors will be in my future, but trying to figure out price vs effectiveness is confusing. Stock are cheap and will not kill me.

I would recommend the DBA T3 4000 serious, but the newest model out, there on our shop 370z and it is used for time attack events, no complaints and work like a charm

Remember rotor is virtually a heat sink, it doesn't really increase braking performance (unless you are overheating the crap out of your brakes). Cryo treat will make the bonds stronger and make it stronger and possibly last longer. Save your money on better pads and tires, much better bang for the buck!

Yes, wasnt cheap. I went through a pretty new set of pads my 3rd heat on the first day of racing. I saw first hand what hard breaking and heat does to the fluid not to mention going metal to metal.

If you have something weak on the car, it will only get magnified when your on the track . (Sorta like the loss of fuel in long hard right turns.) Anyone who races or tracks the Z knows this is a huge problem
