Who wants Titanium pad shims the the AP Racing brakes?
This isn't a group buy, this is a thread to see what kind of interest there is in a manufacturer producing titanium pad spacer shims for the AP Racing front calipers (pad shape CP7040D61 / Hawk 586).
The purpose of the shims is to reduce heat transfer from the very hot pad and rotor (1100F+ by my measurements) to the temperature sensitive brake caliper and fluid. From talking to other racers they apparently can be very effective in preventing the brake fluid from boiling and maybe even keeping your piston dust boots intact. If you have the AP Racing brake kit and are interesting in these shims just reply to the thread so we can get a head count. The more interest there is, the more likely he is to produce them quickly. I am getting things started by fronting the setup fee for a new design and sending them a used set of pads for sizing verification. No pricing available yet, but I would guesstimate they will be around the $100 mark for the AP front axle (0.5mm thick titanium) based on approximate size. Again, I'm not selling anything or organizing a group buy. This is simply for the purpose of gathering interest and support. For those of you that have the sport brakes, they already have shims available. Hard Brakes - Titanium Brake Heat Shields for 370Z Akebono Edit: Shims are now available for the CP7040! Timeframe minimum right now is 4-8 weeks since it is a new design, I'll send you a message when they are ready. If we can get 6+ people on board it will be closer to the short side as they will make it a priority.
Thanks guys!

Why do you guys think this is a good idea?
Titanium (99% pure) thermal conductivity = 12.65 BTU / (hr-ft-F) 304 SST thermal conductivity = 8.09 Seems to me SST would be better performance and price. ref: Thermal Properties of Metals, Conductivity, Thermal Expansion, Specific Heat - Engineers Edge

The manufacturer offers stainless as well for most parts, however it is twice as heat conductive vs their titanium alloy 6AL-4V (6% aluminum, 4% vanadium).
I say titanium for short but it is not really, it is a heat resistant alloy. Titanium alloy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Excellent. Initially I think this will be front only, or at least front will be the priority.
