Several questions

I just got back from Laguna Seca and had a good time. It would have been even better had I gotten a full 30 minutes of track time out of my brakes before fade set in.

Questions:
How much will steel brake lines help me? How about DOT 5.1 brake fluid over DOT 4? Are cryogenated rotors going to help?

Thank you for any help provided.

Steel brake lines will improve the feel of the pedal but I don't believe they will have any impact brake fade.

What brake fluid are you running? What are the dry/wet boiling points? When did you last replace the fluid?

Edit: Fun video, btw. I'd love to run Laguna Seca. :)

freezing the rotors only make them last longer, doesn't improve braking. You should buy some ducts

No substitute for airflow.

Did you take any temps?

Red Line DOT 4 was put in five weeks ago. Boiling point unknown.

Too bad. I did buy ducts.

No I did not. It was like a furnace.

Thank you all. I was hoping the steel brake line would radiate heat from the fluid. Rats!

I want to be able to stop after 30 minutes. What is next for me then?

If any of you are here, when any track event CFRA holds, I will gladly sponsor you as a guest. Laguna Seca was three times in two months then not again for a year.

Go up to the DOT 5 fluid and you'll notice a big improvement. The lines will help with pedal feel, but won't do a whole lot for temperatures.

I'd invest in a decent IR temp gun and next time you get the brakes hot see if it's the rotors or the calipers that are generating the most heat. Once you have that figured out, you can start addressing cooling.

Are you getting fluid fade or pad fade? There are many things you can do cheaply before you dump money into it

I do not know the difference. The pedal went down further then to the floor on the next application , one pump and I had brakes. Then slowly off the track to the pits.

You got fluid fade, pad fade usually means you have a stiff pedal but no stopping power. What fluid are you running? I am guessing Motul or ATE?

Amazon.com: Castrol SRF Brake Fluid: Automotive

That should address some of the problem

Great link Cossie! That's the lowest price I've seen.

They are expensive, but well worth it if you are getting fluid fade. Their rating is like 1.5 or 2x better than the next competitor.

What I really like is that the wet boil point is way higher than everyone elses. You can be a little more lazy about your track days and not beed the brakes every time.

Considering how expensive track time can be, I could lose out about 5 - 10 minutes per track session* due to fade so $54 seems like good value to me.

* = 5 per day

Yep! Good calculation. If you haven't already I would flush the clutch with high temp fluid as well. At Mid-Ohio I was boiling my clutch fluid 2-3 laps before the checker in 25 minute sessions.
