I'd be on board for this too as i was looking for some before i bought the stoptechs after i smoked the stock ones

I may be all wet here but Stop Tech and Stillen do list cross drilled and slotted rotors for our cars, although they all appear to be 1 pc. like the stock. Am I right that the G37 rotors are the same and will fit the 370z as well? If so its worth looking through listings for those cars as well. Any thoughts as to 1 pc. and 2 pc, one being that much betetr than the other? Im new here so sorry for jumping in with a dumb question, but inquiring minds need to know!

actually, good question henryv007. what is the difference between a one piece and two piece rotor performance wise?

differences:
1. A 2 piece rotor usually uses an aluminum center (hat) which transfers less heat to the wheel, and there for, wheel bearings and other parts. 2. Because of that aluminum hat listed above, 2 piece rotors weigh less, which lightens the car as a whole, lightens the front (which is good if the front of the car is the heavier part), and gives the brake pads less weight to clamp onto which in turn should make for shorter stopping distance (if the tires can manage). 3. From what I have seen in 2 piece rotors, the cooling veins are better designed to evacuate heat. |

this seems like an easy enough product to make, I wonder how hard it would be to take up this idea and make my own :P Maybe offer black, red, and blue anodized centers

The good news keeps rolling in - I found these for our stock calipers as well - they are two peice forged aluminum alloy hats, just like the ones you linked Nismoz, but these seem a little more aggressive
370Z (Sport) - RacingBrake.com 19 lbs compared to 30 lbs. If my rims weighed 30 lbs I sure as hell would be happy with buying lighter 19lb wheels. edit - apparently they are the same company as the picture posted in Nismoz link - but the rotor looks different in the link I posted. Hm. |
Weight is all fine and well, but you also need to look at the metallurgy of the disks, and, the mounting that the hat uses. There are many variables to consider

Why are those important??

Some manufacturers will use stock disc blanks and drill or knee mill (slot) them. These metals are not supposed to be used for those aggressive applications and have a tendancy to crack or break under all the force with a compromised geometry. Basically if they start cutting holes or slots in the thing, you want to make sure they are using strong metals to reinforce the structure to withstand the hard clamping force of the calipers even with material removed.
Also, when you have a two piece rotor, it is just one more part to go wrong. You need to make sure the manufacturer has confronted the issues when you deal with screw on brake centers. From the manufacturer site, "Alloyed iron formula adds strength and heat resistance. Heat treating further improves rotor performance for a more uniform and stabilized microstructure." Center rotor hat mounting, "Exclusive full floating design with 10.9 grade alloyed hardware. Hardware is DACRO coated and crimp locking. DACRO is highly corrosion resistant and provides a film for easier movement between the hat and rotor ring as disc expands and contracts and the crimp design provides positive engagement without rattling or torque loss at temperature." |
Those ones at racingbrake linked above look pretty good. However they don't seem to be actually available. The Slotted fronts say 6-8 weeks to ship, the open slotted fronts are "unavailable", and the rears are listed as 12-16 weeks out (holy crap that's 3-4 months).

O.K. So for these Racing Brake rotors, as per their website, these appear to be good quality. Yes?
