Brake screeching
I know what you guys are thinking......change your pads! But this is different.
I bought my car brand new and put 16,000 miles on it with original brake pads. However, every time I come to the first stop, the brake screech for a second or two. The screeching only happens the first couple times I break. After that, no sound of screech whether I slam it or lightly press it. I never abuse or slam my brakes, I conserve and take it easy with the pedals. This has been happening for a month now and its getting annoying. Im pretty sure I dont have to change my pads after only putting 16,000 miles.....or am I suppose to? Is there a solution to this noise problem? |
Check the pads for wear. If they are ok apply some brake-quiet grease to the back of the pads and re-install.

Since you say it's just the first couple of stops it could simply be rust on the rotors from sitting.

Yeah what sig said about the moisture/rust sounds right.. the same thing happens if you wash your car then you don't drive it for a few hours.

if you live near the beach, ill bet its rust like they said

The screech is actually a high frequency vibration from the rotor surface being polished smooth, like running your finger around a wine glass.
I would just lube up the back of the pads and run them through a re-bedding process, should eliminate 90% of the noise. |
