Yo, yo, anyone gotten their brakes done at a shop shot yet?
How much should we expect? Shop/Dealer- Milage when brakes needed servicing- Track your car? yes/no Front/rear/both pads replaced- Rotors resurfaced/replace- Final cost- $ |
wow you made it to 41k with stock brakes? my rotors are warping already at 19k.
anyways z1motorsports has a brake combo for $578, which includes rotors, pads, brake fluid, and ss brake lines. my mechanic said he could change it all out for me for $140 i believe. so total comes out to around $720. |

My local Nissan dealer quoted me $250 for the rears last time I had them change the oil. I'll probably do them myself, since the pads are only about $38-72 per set depending on how high perf I go. And I figure the dealer is making out big time at $250 if all they're gonna do is cut the rotors and replace the pads with a stock set that cost them next to nothing.

43,500 on my original stock brakes, non sport.

I put warped in quotes because in reality you aren't warping them, you are leaving uneven deposits. Either way you turn em on a lathe or replace. OP: You can price out pads and fluid +/- rotors yourself. A shop will probably charge around the same there for the mateirals, then add in 1.5 hours of labour (at 60-70/hr), and add maybe 45 to change the brake fluid and 50 to turn the rotors if you think they need it. Note that in my opinion the OEM pads are overpriced and crap. Personally, I've only changed my brakes myself and with an impact gun it might <10 minutes a side. I get free pads and fluid. I replace rotors and pads with my "race" ones before I go to the track and have probably swapped them out a half dozen times. I know that's not an exact $ quote but might help you some. As others have said, I'd do it yourself. It's quite easy. |
I have a 2009 Touring Sport, started to feel a very slight vibration when braking so at my oil change appt had them do a brake inspection.
Shop/Dealer- North Carolina Milage when brakes needed servicing- 32000 Track your car? yes/no - nope Front/rear/both pads replaced- Front - They tried to tell me I needed new rotors...upon questioning the dude, he reluctantly informed me I could probably just resurface the rotors and they'd be fine. Pads were still very good. Rotors resurfaced/replace- Resurface fronts Final cost- $99 |
I'd hate to beat a dead horse, but the Akebono brake system is the easiest to do work on IMO. At most you might need to resurface the rotors and install new pads. I would think it's about 2-3 hrs of labor. But since I like filling out surveys:
Shop/Dealer- Me, a friend, and Notorious BIG on the radio Milage when brakes needed servicing- I visibly check the wear on the pads. rotors have 67K on them (yeah i know.) Track your car? yes and daily Front/rear/both pads replaced- pads are replaced as needed. Rotors resurfaced/replace- original rotors....a set of lightly used ones are in my closet to install for the next track day. Final cost- $ 50 dollars for rotors...daily pads are 165 for a set F and R (stoptech) |
