Coilovers or Springs?
I have a 2010 nismo and want to close the wheel well gap (pictured below), which should I choose: Coil-overs or Springs, which brand of either would suit my needs best? Also, with either choice, what else would you recommend regarding camber kits, spacers, etc? I want to develop a complete list of parts I need for this project. Cost is not a big issue. I would like to improve handling performance, maintain decent ride quality, adjustability, stock rake, and the flush wheel look. I want to close the fender gap but not slam the car or cause rubbing/street driving issues (how low should I go?). Wheels/tires are Volk TTA TE-37's, front 9.5X19's+22 (265/35/19) and rear 11x19's+15 (305/30/19). The wheels sit flush right now on the stock suspension. The car is used on-street and for occasional track days and is not my DD. I want to set the car up for road course style driving, not drag racing. I know there is a ton of information here about this topic, but I would like some opinions regarding my exact car and situation.

All in all, springs would be a great choice if you're really on a budget. I personally have the H&R springs and they ride like OEM springs and the drop is pretty decent. Though they are nice, I will be going with coilovers because I want more low! Lol. I guess it really depends on what you're looking to do with your Z. My honest opinion? Skip the springs and go coils.

Ive ridden in cars with H&R and was not a fan of them. if you went H&R i'd say you would need to get camber kits with it. But if you wanna do road courses, i would not get springs.
Best option is always coilovers. Which ones depend on what you wanna do, but since you said road course, some would probably say the tein monoflex with an EDFC would be your best bet. You could adjust the damper rates for whichever track you go to. Mike (on this forum) uses the tein monoflex, stillen sway bars and SPC front/rear camber arms. and he does pretty damn well at the tracks. I had the same setup, but i found the ride a lil harsh for 20" wheels and the fact that i spend very little time on a track even though its not my daily. |
HKS hypermax and Kinetix, full ajustments for street or track. By looking at the other parts on you car it looks like you are not on a tight budget!

Coils all the way! Take a look at KW or HKS as said above..

I would agree with the coilovers, give you better control & adjustment so you can dial in what you want & each specific purpose.

Furthermore, is a camber kit a must with the coil-overs, or is this only necessary if you select below a certain drop level? |
from what I have read people seem to love the whiteline sways... Once I get my car back I will do a little review on them as well as some other new goodies. I had KWs on my g37 and LOVED them. Great handling, and still retained a very nice ride. Much better than the OEM struts on the H&R springs I had to start with.. I want to try and go with HKS this time around but not sure if I want to spend the extra coin on them

I have KW v3 coil overs on my car. I had Nismo struts with springs, and they blew in 3 months. I wouldn't recommend springs with the struts you have on your car. I LOVE my KW V3 coil overs and highly recommend them.

Coilovers! Especially since you said money wasn't really an issue. Coils, front and rear camber arms, toe bolts and call it a day.
