Default Using OEM Scissor Jack To Lift Car

I have some sway bars to install this weekend. Was curious if any of you use the scissor jack that came with our cars to lift it enough to get jack stands underneath.

Opinions?

I would guess that it wont be able to get it up high enough, however I do not have personal experience with this. I have a floor jack...

I've used mine several times, it barely gets high enough for the lowest settings on jack stands, plus is not meant for repeated use. The eye of the jack and the hook of the arms begin to wear out and eventually get to the point to where you're having to torque too hard to make it work and they just rub off. Best bet is to spend $50 and get a low profile jack. It will save you time and headache later.

That's what I've been looking for...but can't seem to find one that cheap.

The cheapest I've seen on sale is $50 and mostly around $80 normally. These are for your lower quality brands. I have seen them as high as $150 though... so it's one of those, how much is it worth to you situations, but any autozone/checkers/o'reilley should have them in stock or can order one for you.

Yeah, the thing destroys itself pretty quickly. The eye on my jack is really bad now, and it's requiring a lot more force to operate as a consequence (because the angles never line up right). I think I might actually look for a replacement though, either Nissan's or I'll see if some other cheap equivalent is available.

I use mine a bunch, both for roadside (well, "at the track", where I don't want to carry my hydraulics) as well as in my garage. Sometimes it's just more convenient than a hydraulic jack on this car, given the dearth of safe jacking spots on this car and how far to the inside some of them are, and clearance to any nearby walls for the big hydraulic jack arms. I actually have two low-profile hydraulic jacks and a couple of bottle jacks at home and I still find myself wearing out the factory one heh.

I really don't see myself needing one too often so spending $150 is is crazy. If I could find one for $50-60...I'd be all over it...but spending that much just isn't worth it to me. I'll give the scissor jack a go tonight.

Found a coupon on eBay for a low profile 1.5 ton racing jack for only $59.99...seems like an OK deal for something you won't use very often.

Harbor freight carries a decent low-profile jack for like 60-70$.

I use the oem jack to get the car high enough so I can slip my low pro floor jack under the car
