Cleaning Wheel Hub
 

Got new wheels put on this weekend and was detailing the car after having them installed when I noticed how much brake dust and residue there was on the front wheel hubs. Since the new wheels have a different hub shape than the stockers this was noticeable upon close inspection.

Is it possible to clean this off and if so what is the best thing to use? And will this current residue on the hub hurt the wheels at all for the time being?

wire brush + brake cleaner or RC car motor spray + engine enamel primer + engine enamel matte black. :)

or some cool new 2 piece aluminum rotor hats...... jkjk the above works

Okay, great thanks for the info. I'm just going to clean them for now but will try the engine enamel later.

watever you do, dont sand anything as it can distort the flat face of the hub area where your wheel makes contact. GL. :)

Okay, thanks for the advice. For now I'm just going to try a brush and brake cleaner. I was able to get a lot of it off with just a rag and water last night, but need to remove wheels to get to the rest of it.

Once you clean it all off hit the centering ring with a small amount of wheel bearing grease or anti-seize, it'll stop any corrosion from building up between the hub and the wheel so that the wheel doesn't get stuck on the hub.
