My front rotors had to be resurfaced after 15k, now at 23k, i feel some vibration coming back. i have the base brakes, but still felt like they should last longer. might have to get new rotors since they are probably too thin to surface again.
anyone had rotors warp after washing the car right after driving the car? i mean splashing cold water to hot rotors? i did that on an older car, be careful. haha. |

Contrary to popular belief, rotors RARELY warp. I've only seen it once, and I've done plenty of brake jobs. It's almost always a case of uneven pad deposits on the rotor. Hard braking will remove the pad deposits in most cases.
Take a look at this article by Stoptech that covers a few myths about brake systems, including warped rotors. -Warped- Brake Disc and Other Myths

ok just picked my car up from the shop..initial feeling was holy damn they look sick!...i drove the car and i dont know if its a common thing or not but the stock brakes bite very quickly and abruptly...with the hps pads and stop tech rotors it seems more civilized...the harder i push the pedal the harder it brakes unlike the stock ones that sometimes a tap will make it come to a complete stop...ill be driving it more today and i can give u a better review...but so far its a lot nicer for traffic lol
Oh and absolutely no shaking

bump...
my brakes (only when they are very hot) create a lot of vibration though the steering wheel. This doesn't happen under normal driving, if I'm racing down some backroads and the brakes are being used hard, i start to get a aggressive vibration/wobble. Nissan dealer checked the rotors and they are .000, .000, .000, .001. Not sure if this is normal, or if there is anything to do to help it. Guy at work said its normal and to just let the brakes cool down. The article someone posted is making it sound like its pad related? Its annoying that everyone says something different, nissan dealer said it wasn't the pads...sigh...who to trust Last edited by NissanGuy23; 06-12-2012 at 06:55 PM. |

I had the same problem after a few track days the first time I encountered the problem I shaved my rotors. After doing another track day the problem came back. I thought it was the pad and bought new pads didn't fix the problem. Turned out I warped my rotors instead of replacing it with oem rotor I bought the 2 piece DBA's and haven't had any brake issues since and I've 2 track days on them track temp over 100 F. I think those of us that track in hot weather our oem rotors deal with high temp very poorly IMO.

If it were my car, I'd live with it until it's time to do the brakes. At that point, throw some new pads on and either get the rotors turned or just replace them. I'd bet that you've got some sort of minor variance somewhere in the rotors that's becoming more pronounced once things heat up and expand. If the problem is bad enough that you don't want to wait to fix it, then get new OEM pads and have the rotors turned. Tell the tech to take off a bit more than usual, to make sure anything that's deep in the rotor gets removed. Then, bed the brakes in properly. Stoptech has a great article on their website that discusses bedding brakes. Quote:

Thats for the advice vivid, ill prob just wait it out and address it the next time i need to look into new pads. Pads/ Rotors rant that expensive so it shouldn't be an issue. Ill also "bed' the brakes, no idea what the previous owner might have done.
I went out again yesterday to try and feel the problem, once the brakes got very hot, (you can small them at a stoplight windows down), its not ABS because i can feel it only when you go light on the brakes. I slowed down and tried to really get a feel for why they were vibrating, and i got the impression that there is a "bump" for every 1 rotation of the wheel. Once the brakes cooled down, its was totally gone. Weird. I also got the impression that it might be coming from only 1 wheel. Im not sure how the dealer measured the runout. |
