Second Thoughts on Eibachs

I picked up the Eibach spings about a month after the Z. I couldn't stand the wheel gap!!

But since then they have just been sitting in my workshop. I have gone back and forth on whether to install them, or sell them.

It seems that I can find good and bad reviews for every spring EVER made! I have only messed with suspension on older cars (like 60's and 70's).

I know the decsion is utlimatly mine, but could anybody with them currently installed just provide a sentance of feedback? Any buyers/ installers remorse?

I am tired of sitting on this fence and just want to make a move...... I just need a little push one way or the other......

If I deceide not to install, anyone want a good price on the new springs? Haha

if you decide to install the springs, i suggest you get the new koni yellow's. tirerack has them now.

im not a fan of spring-only setups. seems like people like the swifts though.

I have the Eibach's installed and I regret going with a spring-only setup (camber arms included). The car doesn't feel like it's on rails anymore as it tends to sway (rock the cabin) when the suspension attempts to negotiate bumps; this is especially true with bumps that are staggered along the road. I now prefer to have a configuration that facilitates tuning and have the overall hardware installed that is designed for the aggressive stance.

I'm still researching and learning more about the swaying sensation. It could be the alignment that causes this to happen while the springs turn out to be fine. I just don't have anything conclusive yet. There is also just so much to learn about suspension that I can get intimidated by it all.

Regardless of the culprit being the springs or alignment, I will upgrade to coilovers in the future. I would advise that you do the same, but skip the springs and aim straight for the coilovers. Springs are better suited for temporary ownership situations whereas coilovers allow for a true enthusiast experience.

When buying springs, don't expect better handling. So that said, Eibachs aren't bad. I like them over Tanabe and Tein. They feel like OEM and the car has a nice stance. I wouldn't worry about blowing out the shocks.

I was in the market for Eibach until i read dAvenue's post concerning swaying. Are you saying that this would be fixed with an alignment?

Before I went coilovers, I had eibachs, stock shocks and stillen sways. I tracked the car a lot and was very happy with both street and track performance.

I only switched because I was testing a new coilover for a manufacturer (on which a weld failed on the first test drive), and then I had the shop replace them with Tein Monoflex.

I wish I would have stayed with what I had, but what is done is done.

yah, defintely get a swaybar set if you aren't planning on getting the koni's. progressive rate springs are soft on turn-ins and initial bump.

if i was to do springs i would get the koni's in with the springs and decide later if i need the swaybars. ive already messed with my G (and a few cars) with just running prokits and they suck by themselves. ended up installing adjustable dampers later or got coilover set if i could fine one with the right spring rates.

on my Z, so far ive kept it stock as im pretty happy with the ride. damping is on the soft side so i might do the koni's on stock springs down the road.

I have stock sways and Swift Spec R's in my Z. I love the handling and feel a definite improvement over the stock springs PLUS I got a decent drop too....

Holy crap! With the exception of Mike, whose opionin I greatley value, everybody is saying go with coilovers?

Mike- Long term speaking, would you still stick with the Eibachs?

DAvenue- You have any sway bars installed? Did you have an alignment right after installing the springs and they have just settled? Or no alignment at all?

topless- you will need to get an alignment. the only time you can get away is if the drop is no more than 0.5" and linear rate springs at higher than stock rate at initial bump.

neither on prokit case, it drops more and progressive rate.

I'll help simplify it for you buddy. It is less time consuming and a better investment to get a set of coilovers. Just putting springs in throws off the whole design of your suspension. If you get a set of coilovers there is a certain range of spring pressure and shock bound/rebound designed in it. In relation to getting springs you are no longer negotiating that principle with eibach springs. Also for what it is worth, I kept chasing my camber when I had that setup on my 08 mustang. For 2 years I kept gaining camber because the springs would never set. Just my humble opinion.

No swaybars yet, and an alignment was done right after installing the springs which was back in late September. I've been considering swaybars for a few weeks now as it sounds like a good mod to do. Maybe that would help my situation.

i would do the koni's before the swaybars and see where it takes you. ive already gone through this senario with my G which has a similar suspension geometry.
