Recommended Rotors
 

I'm looking into brake upgrades for the Z, but don't want to spend a couple Gs on a big brake kit. I have a 2010 Base.

Any cross drilled and/or slotted rotor upgrades you can recommend for the Z?
I will probably be matching them with Hawk pads.

I would go with some slotted only, not cross drilled. They look cool, and on race cars they are... lighter... but they will crack in between the holes when they get hot. Not really necessary for the street. Hawk HPS or HP+ pads would be a nice switch by themselves.
Also, if you want to improve the pedal feel, try switching to some stainless steel braided brake lines. The rubber ones will bulge slightly under heavy braking.

I'm also not a fan of cross drilled rotors on street cars. For rotors, take a look at StopTech or Racing Brake. I carry both, and they're great rotors. I also have Project Mu rotors but unless you're into baller JDM stuff, save the money for upgrading the rest of your brake system. Stainless steel lines help a lot with pedal feel, which makes brake modulation easier. The biggest thing I think you're overlooking is fluid choice. You'll definitely want to upgrade your fluid to something with a higher boiling point. A BBK is a waste for most street cars, simply because you won't ever get to the point where you'll see the benefits. BBKs don't start being worthwhile until you're doing repeated heavy braking over extended time periods.

If you budget allows for it, we've got some StopTech packages that include rotors, pads, and lines. Throw in some Motul or Endless brake fluid and you're looking at right around $1000. So you only have a base model no sport package? If so just go with this package from Z1 and be done with it. Very affordable with many options. I'm currently running on these rotors and there great. I have 6K miles and three track days with no issues or stress cracks yet. Please tell them Christopher Spohn sent you.

Don't get drilled rotors though.

I think I'm the only one who likes the "J" hook style rotors

I have a set of Stillen J Hooks waiting to be put on after my current rotors wear. Cant wait.

Stillen Sport rotors are a good choice. I have the slotted ones on my 5.0 and am very happy with them.

no offense man but i wouldnt spend 1000$ upgrading the base brakes. better off spending that money towards an akebono upgrade.

/\ I'd say you have two "budget" options:

1. just do fluid, lines, and pads and keep the stock base calipers.

2. upgrade to the sport package akebono oem brake calipers/rotors and still do the fluid, lines, and pads. Z1 sells an upgrade kit along with some of the other vendors I'm sure.

The stock sport package rotors aren't bad, they're not "blingy" like a set of dba slotted and or cross drilled ones, but they function just fine on track or street.

Love the j-hooks

Another thought would be if your hard on your brakes or tend to track. Your better off buying cheaper ones and just replaceing them often or have them cryo treated to get a little more out of them.

Akebonos are heavy, and BBKs are useless on the street anyway.

sorry to bump a old thread back iv recently had my warped front rotors turned at 25k still have a slight vibration so for 1k ish what did u end up with and how do u like it?
