POWERTRIX Coilovers - 3 weeks driven..
Wanted a coilover system for when my wheels come in so after speaking with a few of the board members I decided to give Powertrix the nod. Met up with the owner Charles Park in San Diego and he personally installed the damper system for me on a weekend! :icon17:

Driven for a few weeks I can tell the suspension is stiffer but still has that OEM smoothness. Perhaps a bit more stable when going over bumps/transitions on the freeway. Unlike OEM, the car doesnt get all squirrelly when you go over bumps at speed. I havent pushed the car much as Im almost done with the stock Bridgestones but I can already tell that the car is able to charge turns with minimum body roll. I'm at a 3 setting on stiffness and have up to 15 for max stiffness. Ill try to go stiffer this weekend as some of the higher bumps cause some rubbing. Overall a very positive experience with these coilovers. I believe he still running GB pricing and will eventually run an official GB soon. His handle is Charles@POWERTRIX :driving: |
I'll have to read up on these. They look just like my Stance coilovers. Except mine are true type setup.
What are your spring rates? Does Powertrix have recommended settings for the stiffness? I would start at 8 and go from there. I love mine so far (8 months strong). But I eventually will want something more advance one day. |
Charles set me up at 3. Guess it all depends on how stiff you want to have it? Will give my take after I go stiffer (thinking about 5) and maybe play around with it. I believe these are the same spring rates as the stance's at 13k/11k . Id have to confirm the actually numbers with Charles.

I have them too.
I also have these coilovers. Been installed on my Z34 for a little over a year now and have been nothing but excellent. As a Z32 and Z33 owner as well, I have also owned there coilovers for several years.
They make 3 different versions of coilovers: Suspension I have been running the Ultra-lites on my Z32 since 2003 as it sees a lot of autocross and road coarse and I run the SS on my Z33 (since 2006) and Z34. The SS is specificly designed for every day street use with just enough performance for the weekend track warrior. But if you are more serious on the track, I would recommend the Race or Ultra-lite coilovers. Both Race or Ultra-lite coilovers are still more than comfortable on the street but just have more stiffer damper settings and pillow ball mounts. As for back ground, Powertrix has been making coilovers since 2002 or at least thats when Charles intorduced the Z32 line to us and the San Diego Z32 club meeting. If they look familiar to other coilovers on the market, its because they do manufacture for other companies for rebadging. However, they are in no way affilated with BC coilovers. For the Z34, the spring rates are 12k/10k on the SS and 13k/11k for the Race and Ultra-lite. I'll post up some pictures as soon as I figure out how to do so. |

It came up in our San Diego Z car monthly meetings and since Charles from POWERTRIX sponsors and comes to our meets and discusses products, tech, etc with us, it was asked what is the difference between their coilovers and the others on the market that look just like them other than being a different color. Those companies such as Stance, Driftworks, and KTS (SPL) came up. Long story short, we finally got it out of him that they were all being produced in their manufacturing facility. Its a subject that they try to keep non public for obvious reasons but it makes sense as described that they can't keep a manufacturing plant open and busy by just manufacturing Z car coilovers alone. So they are contracted by other companies to do manufacturing for them. |
I persoanlly dont care who they are made by I love my powertrix coilovers. They ride unbelievably smooth and when you increase the stiffness of the dampeners you get the best of both worlds (oem smooth ride, plus performance you can actually feel). Charles is a great guy and goes out of his way to make sure his customers are satisfied. I actually like that you can speak to the owner of the company. Try doing that with KW, HKS or tein. Not gonna happen.
