Getting lowered without springs?

Now I realize this doesn't apply to but very few cars but I was wondering if it was possible on the Z, moreso the Nismo Z because that's what I own. Is it possible to get "any" drop whatsoever without springs? It can even be 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch, anything is good. I think my car is close to perfect but needs a tiny bit more of a drop. Thanks. :tiphat:

Hey brother, im not sure because i haven't seem them in a while but back in the days they used to sell these clamps that you can put on the springs that all it does it gets two of the coils and puts them together. I don't know if you would do that to your Nismo but just to put it out there. In cheaper cars people just cut a coil or heat it up but then again we wouldn't do that to our Z so without changing the springs, that would be the best bet.

Thanks, but yeah I'd like to take the "right" way of doing this. If there is one without springs.

Fat passenger?

Seriously though, don't try any bootleg stuff, some new springs are your best bet.

I have seriously done this.. I had a random friend ride with me before.. he weights 285lbs and I weight 160lbs.. honest I had to tell him that he made my car so much sexier ;)

it really does sit lower! besides that tho? get you some swift springs and a camber kit man.. our cars a pricey and being that yours is a nismo? don't keep out.. around $500 bucks is chump change compare to 40-50k

Synack 07-20-2011 10:53 PM

Gah, didn't want to have to go with springs again on another car lol. Oh well, thanks.

cheshirecat 07-21-2011 11:04 AM

The closest thing you can do, OP, is to shave the rear rubber springmount. This has been done quite a bit on the 350z to even the height out with stock springs.

You cannot, however, lower the front without a new spring setup. There isn't any kind of perch to trim down.

this thread is silly....

Seriously, I know this is a cheesy topic but don't bash it. It's a serious question.

Ron 07-21-2011 11:44 AM

Yes but I was wondering if there is a way I can install wheel spacers without taking the wheels off? Like can we cherry pick the engine and do it that way? LOL. I kid I kid.

Anyway, yes in a few hours or so. I'm still at work. :happydance:

I also decided to say nay to the custom G3 because of the MAF's.

Ron 07-21-2011 12:10 PM

The later the better, it's fvcking hot!

phunk 07-21-2011 05:09 PM

tjlazer 07-21-2011 06:03 PM

Oh it's not that I'm trying to skimp on money. I just wanted to keep the car as virtually "stock" as I could. If it was about the money I wouldn't be going S/C here in a few months :tiphat:

KamiSpeed 07-22-2011 01:55 PM

springs or coilover... with most coilovers you'll even be able to add some height =P

Synack 07-22-2011 02:04 PM

Just rode on Ron's Nismo with swift springs. The ride is actually SOFTER and its lower...? Wtf? It's a softer ride than my Nismo lol.

corner3garage 07-22-2011 02:32 PM

or just get swift springs and increase handling at the same time?

DJ-of-E 07-22-2011 06:04 PM

Honestly, let the guy go ghetto on his car. I mean, the worst he could do is blown shocks and dragged his car butt all over the street with camber/toe all blown to hell.

I mean, not all of us have $30,000 worth of life savings blown or have parents throw away money for a new car.

Really? I paid for this car on my own. And I'm not trying to go ghetto, I asked a simple question and got an answer. Don't be a ****.

no but seriously... your only options at lowering the car would be springs or coilovers... anything else would compromise the performance of your car.

Swifts? I should have money in 3 weeks, I just bought Stillen G3 intakes and Stillen HFC's and a number of other ~$100 things. So I kind of spent a bit more than I anticipated after just buying the car.

Coilovers are adjustable, I can put the ride height at whatever I want.

So you're gonna get coilovers and ride at stock height? How about some springs that are less aggressive than swifts?

No I'm going to jack the car up and put some fat BFG's on it and go offroading.

they make coilover springs though... so do cheap coilovers with swift coilovers springs for a pretty decent setup
