sport calipers vs. base calipers
Alright so I have a base Z and I really like the calipers that the Z with the Sport package has. Is there any difference performance wise in the Sport brakes/calipers and Base brakes/calipers?
If I want the look that the Sport Z has with its brakes/calipers, do I need to completely change my brakes and then get the large calipers? Thanks in advanced. p.s. i know there's these plastic Brembo caliper covers but those look horrible in my opinion lol i don't want sh!tty things put on my car |
Here's an excellent thread to answer your question.

This is what you will need to get: Z1 Akebono Sport Brake Upgrade Package
You can also browse the used section and pick up a used set if you want. |
I went from base brakes to sport brakes and I feel they are defiantly a couple steps up. But don't expect leaps and bounds either. You will have to buy a complete kit and Z1 hands down has the best pricing on these with several great options. They can also get you in touch with Mike here on the forums who powder coats to get that nice custom look. I hope to have my done next month.
If you have any other questions I'll be glad to help. I can even install them if you'd like. |

You will really feel the difference when doing things like going from 120mph to 60mph, etc... the 80 to 0 stops you lose a few feet and will notice fade when beating on the brakes consistantly. But nissan standard brakes are hard to fade with good pads. So ur not losing with base. But you still have better brakes in the akebono pkg. It just depends on what you do with your Z.

Has anyone powder coated their base calipers? Wanted to know if it was worth spending $1,600 on the Akebono's rather than just powder coating for around $300
|
Save $300 and just use high temps paint from autozone. It's a sipmle task, check YouTube for guides. Personally I would leave them alone. Anyone who knows cars could tell they're base brakes no matter what color you make them.

I have a base Z, the first thing I did was I ordered the sport brake upgrade from Z1 cost around 2k. Night and day difference love them.
