Drop at 30k?
 

I just bought my 09 370z with 31k mi on it and wanted to drop with a set of Swift springs.

I'm honestly not as familiar with the stock shocks on a 370z as I am with other platforms. So what I'm wondering is should I be able to put the springs on without blowing the shocks or should I get a new/slightly used set of stock shocks to replace what I have?

I'd really like to close up the gaps a bit and make this car's stance a bit more aggressive.

you should be fine.. but if you want to play it safe its never a bad thing

I think you'd be fine on the swifts at that mileage.

at 31k if you put the springs on dont expect the shocks to last past 50k miles.

at 30K i would definitely get new shocks and struts if running lowering springs.

if you're doing the work in your garage i suppose you can just swap it and see, but it's a a waste of money if you're letting a shop do it. just get new parts (including new adjustable rear toe rods) and be done with it.

It really depends on how the car was driven. The shocks could have quite a bit of life left in them, or they could be on the way out.

I wouldnt worry about it. Most coilover companies will tell you that the fact "that running stiffer springs on a shock will blow your shock" is a myth.
The only way that a lowering spring will blow your shock is if you constantly bottom out. Stiffer springs wont really affect it. Because even on coilovers whether the shock is valved for a 30kg spring or a 5kg spring the same exact seals are used. The only difference is the way the piston is shimmed. And seeing as though the Swifts gauge the useable stroke of the shock. I wouldnt think it would be a problem.

You should be fine but if you are paying for the whole install you might be better off buying a new set of shocks... If your doing it free then just do it. Just my 2 cents.

I'll be doing the swap with a mechanic friend of mine at work. There's a member that has full front/rear suspension off a '11 with 1k mi on it so I'll probably buy that. Ordered my springs today, no one has the Swifts in stock.. Jeez these are popular.

Sounds like a plan! Get some camber rods too while you're at it. (I made a mistake posting toe rods in my previous post while I was thinking camber rods) :shakes head:
