Brake help/info needed
I just hit 30K on my 09 non sport Z and starting to notice my wheel vibrating when i brake...from researching i see that i should have the rotors cut and thats prob the issue...however im looking into brake kits and i dont wanna spend crazy money...its my daily driver and im looking into brakes mostly for looks...no track for this Z...any info or help would be great...at this mileage would u think i need pads and rotors..or could i just get some slotted or drilled rotors...also any info on caliper painting would help too thanks again guys

hmmm... just street use and you're running the OEM pads right? seems far-fetched, but it's possible that you warped your rotors... have you been leaving the parking brake on after lots of really hard braking? is the 'vibration' coming from rear brakes or front? ie are you sure it is translating through steering wheel and not the rear?
you could have warped the front rotors as well if you've been doing hard canyon runs and extended downhill braking... but again, seems a bit far fetched one way to find out is to pull the tires and inspect everything... how do the pads look? any signs of cracking or warping in rotors? does the car pull left or right? give us more detail what part of the country are you in? there are like 15 places that call themselves "tri state" so that doesn't help |

everything is OEM and i live in NJ...i travel alot to PA and do some hard braking down major hills and runs through the mountains but nothing extreme...i just hit 30K and everyone ive talked to that rides in the car says i most likely warped my rotors...the wheel is def vibrating and not the front or rear....the car doesnt pull to either side...wheel just shakes when im braking at anything above 40mph...
should i have the rotors re surfaced or just replace them...i would like to get slotted or drilled...dont know much about the diff but i looked at the "stoptech" ones and there fairly priced for what i would need...thanks again for your help

Go to the Stoptech website and read all of the FAQ's (some excellent information there) especially the sections about uneven pad/disc deposits.
Vibration can often be caused by improperly bedded in pads. |

I'm removing my base model brakes this weekend. For I'm upgrading to sport brakes. They only have 2000 miles on them. Make you a great deal on the rotors and pads. Shipping could cost a little though. I've been pretty easy on them.

Probably not improper bedding in considering these are all factory installed... I don't think he mentioned anything about new pads... OP, please confirm that
The thermal management on the front brakes of this vehicle is downright horrible... best guess, I agree with your friends you have a warped rotor or rotors... you could have warped one side and would still get a shimmy with no pull, if it's not too extreme... There's only one way to tell, remove the rotors and have your brake guy spin them... let us know what you find out Also before "fixing this" with new parts... you should think about how to get more air to the front brakes... otherwise you may end up with this problem all over again... I cooked a very expensive set of AP Racing rotors... my problems went away after I crated some home-made air ducts... search this board for "brake cooling" there are a number of projects going on and you should find a solution that fits your budget good luck |

thanks alot guys....and no new pads everything is original OEM i bought the car with 3 miles on it and havent touched the brakes at all...im gonna see what the dealer says but prob wont let them work on it...ill let you know the outcome
