QUIZ: What do you see here?
So, I picked up a 370Z with some minor mods, but I haven't had a chance to hoist it up yet... I stuck a camera under the car to try and see what if any suspension mods it had.
Clearly the car was lowered... I guess in my opinion- very low. Here's a few pictures- this quiz is much harder than my last. I can't really tell stock vs. anything, save the springs. Does Eibach make different drops for the 370Z? I saw on the forum several other installs which seem to be much less agressive drops than mine. I am trying to decipher the model number, to see if I could determine the exact spring... but if there is only "one" that I guess the excercise is pointless. Here are the only two underbody shots that came out clear... is that the stock sway bar, or is there just not enough context to tell? Anything else of note under there? Thanks for indulging my ignorance! |

Yeah, I had my tape measure out there and everything while I was snapping pictures... then forgot to get measurements.
My biggest annoyance is probably the CF lip sticks out so far, with a 1-1.5" drop, it scrapes EVERYTHING. |

The stock bar looks stock; the black finish is identical to stock bars and the diameter looks the same just by eyeball.

So you bought a car from someone who had modded it... and you didn't ask them or they didn't tell you what all had been done??

Private seller or from an intermediary?
If the former, I guess you could just ask...? Very nice Z, BTW. Full S-tune kit or just the front lip? More pics?

I thought the normal Eibach springs are part # 6393.14 which gives a 0.8 inch drop. Your springs are marked 6393.002, but I couldn't find that number. I'm not sure what convention Eibach uses to mark their springs either.

I was more concerned about getting a nearly new car in nearly new condition, that drives likes its nearly new... At least two of those were true- although I was told all three were true. So I am stuck with it, and I can't get it into the shop and up on a lift to see for myself for a few weeks- so I have to guess at whats under, in, and on it. I am trying to decide whats going to get pulled off, replaced, or left alone. Plus I'd like my mecahnic's shop visit to be a quick in-and-out, so I want to ensure everything I am hoping to have replaced, fixed, swapped- I have purchased in advance, ready to go in April. Everything else appears stock that we can see in the pictures, so if it is just the springs then that isn't a big deal to put back. I'm sure there would be members willing to a trade of stock springs for the Eibach, or find someone selling off their stock springs cheap.
Might want to snap a pic of the front suspension upper control arm (just turn the wheel to full lock). If it is still aluminum then it is stock. Check for an oil cooler by looking for hoses coming off a fitting where the oil filter is, or see if you can see any additional radiators through the front grill besides the small silver power steering cooler on the left.

If everything is installed correctly then that isn't a very aggressive drop- so maybe I should look at replacing the front bumper... I can't be scraping every tiny little bump I go over... I definitely have to get some measurements, so I am not just posting conjecture and speculation on here... but is it possible the springs are installed improperly causing them to be far more compressed than they should? |

The car is pretty low to start with so I'm guessing that you just have the 0.9" front drop which is causing you to scrape. There is certainly no way you can screw up installing the front springs except for failing to torque down the top nut for the spring perch, but that wouldn't make it lower just horrible noises.

I figured as much...
well, i think I would probably change the lip before spending the same amount of money on less agressive drops such as the RS-R's. I'll probably leave the springs on. I am adding some Eibach sways in my "fix-up" phase... I would like the car to handle as agressively as possible, yet still be comfortable to drive. I just won't be able to deal with approaching curbs and driveways over 2" at a right angle. |
