Stance GR+ for 370z Bought from THM Making Thump Noise!!!

Hey Guys,

So i recently purchased a set of Stance GR+ OEM Type coilovers from THMMotorsports, installed them this weekend, and the driver rear is now making a thumping noise whenever i make a left or right turn, or go over a good size bump on the driver side...

Anyone else have this problem? Any fixes? Does Stance offer a warranty? THM, Do you mind chiming in?

odie99 02-07-2011 09:28 PM

Check to make sure all of your bolts are correctly torqued.

haha,i think i have a very good idea why it's thumping!

did you remove the rubber cone shape in the rear spring mount? if so, that is why it's thumping. you are suppose to install the Stance spring mount onto the rubber cone shape in the rear. hope this helps!

The rubber mount is on the bottom of the spring. We made sure to put it on there. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I already sent THM, and Stance an email. Hope to hear back from them soon.

i'm talking about the cone shape on top. both top and bottom of the spring suppose to have the factory rubber on there. just tell me this, did you remove the cone shape rubber that's on top?

or better off, do you have any pic's of your install? i can tell you right now if it's correct or not.

DennisZ 02-07-2011 10:17 PM

we did not remove the rubber cone at the top.

And it is still there, we put the adjuster thing for the spring right under it. and then the spring and then a rubber piece under the spring.

yes, that is correct. sorry, that's all the tips i have.

i just installed the same exact setup for a local guy yesterday. so far so good with no complaints about any clunking noise whatsoever.

Thanks alot man. I think it might have to do with the preload of the spring? Just read a thread on here and a member is saying his spring wasnt compressed enough so it cause a thumping noise.

How did you set up the spring and the strut? Because when i installed it, i didnt even adjust the height because im not sure how to do it....

that can possibly be it!
i preloaded the rear spring closer to the end about 8 threads left. i unscrewed the shock cap and turned it in about 10 turns.

SPOHN 02-08-2011 07:33 AM

I thought you had to remove the rubber cone shaped thing when installing the rear with coilovers?

not with these newer style cone shape spring mount. It's designed to install onto the existing factory rubber cone. By doing that should eliminate all the clunking noise but the op's problem has to be something different.

SPOHN 02-08-2011 09:01 AM

Ok. I'm going to be installing my BC's this weekend. I hope they come in.

NIce!

The BC setup requires you to remove the stock rubber cone

SPOHN 02-08-2011 09:35 AM

Yea I just found that BC requires the removal. Thanks

Very good coils for the price imo.

WOndering did the OP solve the problem yet.

THMotorsports 02-08-2011 09:55 AM

Howdy! Did adding pre-load to the coilovers change anything? Also, where exactly does the clunking sound like its coming from? Is it near the shock tower mount, or like the lower control arm area?

SPOHN 02-08-2011 10:35 AM

Well I guess I won't be getting my BC's after all, that's fine. But to be lied to is another thing. I'm so pissed right now. To get one story from a vendor and another from the distributor is BS. Stay tuned, I will be creating a thread about this later today. This is the third time from vendors here off the boards in three weeks. There all about to get called out.

whoa, What happened buddy?

SPOHN 02-08-2011 10:47 AM

I wasnt going to bring this to the boards yet after not talking one more time. So why do this? But BC is telling me mid March. You told me two weeks. So why is that? My attitude change after talking to them.

THMotorsports 02-08-2011 10:53 AM

PM me or call me from hereafter :)

DennisZ 02-08-2011 11:28 AM

Uhhh, this thread kinda got off topic. But anyways, I am making an appointment with speed element to try to adjust the preload and strut to match up. Will keep you guys posted. Thanks!

SPOHN 02-08-2011 11:30 AM

Sorry about that!! Yea keep us updated for sure.

They are 1000x more comfortable than stock suspension. They handle like a beast! Just have to get this issue resolved then I can really tell you how I feel.

I talked to Scott @ Stance USA. He suggested that anyone who is having clunking problems call him directly.

He said there should be no problems whatsoever.

847-290-1568 - Just ask for Scott

DennisZ 02-09-2011 12:41 PM

Hey Nick,

Just spoke with Another member here, a car that he worked on and installed the same coilover is having the same exact noise...But the noise came after a few days after being installed...

THMotorsports 02-09-2011 01:03 PM

Yo! Well, as I mentioned, I spoke to Scott @ Stance USA, and he said there should be no issues at all.

Just hit him up :)

i wouldnt have a problem with it, if it only happened occasionally, but mines is all the time. over any type of bump.

Endgame 02-09-2011 02:47 PM

The IntenseMotorsports tech did some tweaks to mine and it does not happen as much at all anymore. I just chatted with Stance (Jim I think) about this, and I think I will let he and the tech talk so he can explain everything he did.

I reccomend calling Stance. Scott was to lunch, but Jim was very cool and willing to help. Great support by them.... If I get my issue figured out when I take my car in the week of the 21st, I will be sure to post and let all know what it was.

THMotorsports 02-09-2011 03:43 PM

Some people have mentioned they need to tighten their collars more. Personally, I have Stance, and I had to do this.

That's what I keep thinking needs to be done. Everyone needs to triple check the nuts and bolts. I also wonder if these same people did and alignment change at the same time. Might need to check those to. Wouldn't hurt.

But I really think there needs to be more springload added. And the people who have this issue where is the sound coming from on everyones? Just the rear? Or a mixture of both?
