Stillen Front Sway bars, now adjustable

Thought it would be nice to share this here. I ordered a set of Stillen sway bars during their Thanks Giving sale weekend and I received them today. Upon opening the box I thought they send me the wrong parts, as the front sway bar had 6 holes instead of the 2 I was expecting. But one phone call to Stillen cleared it all up, I received the right one, they just upgraded the fronts to be adjustable based on customer feedback! Nice!

Problem now is, what setting am I going to use? :icon14:

daisuke149 12-17-2010 01:40 PM

DAMN good news. i am about to get me a set so hopefully the ones i get are adjustable as well.

ZPirate 12-17-2010 01:54 PM

Wow I hadn't heard that Stillen made the fronts adjustable too! I guess those of us who purchased the original 370Z sway bars missed out. My Stillen front sway bars have one setting. BTW has Stillen now added urethane bushings or do you still have to purchase those separately? I added them after the fact, but I like them nonetheless. When I bought mine Stillen was selling them separately.

BTW I've finally gone to the softess setting on the rear sway bars. When I had it on full stiff I was setting off the VDC when I took a corner going fast. Now I can do the same thing without activating the VDC. I can't really feel any handling difference between the settings. The softess setting on the Stillen sway bars is still considerably stiffer than the stock rear sway bar.

That's awesome. Too bad I just ordered my Eibach.

No bushings were included, so I'll have to use the stock ones or get urethane ones separately. Where did you get your bushings, from Stillen or somewhere else?

Good to know, I will probably start with the softest settings all round. My main goal is to improve handling a bit for the occasional autoX, hopefully reduce some of the understeer.

I purchased my urethane bushings from Stillen. They are made by someone else, but sold by Stillen to fit the Stillen sway bars. They also come with new mounting brackets and they have separate grease fittings which is nice.

In the stiffest setting (rear) my car was oversteering slightly, hence why I think the VDC was being triggered. I've now got slightly wider wheels and tires(Nismo 370Z wheels) on the car, but I haven't tried the stiffest setting again with the new wheels.

I'd just try the stock bushings. They don't need any maintenance. The Hotchkis bushings I have need to be greased, and the stupid Hotchkis grease seems to last about 4 weeks before you need to repack the bushings. Driving me nuts. I'm just going to put some more robust grease in there...I think Hotchkis is FOS and trying to make people buy their silicone grease.

So, try the stock bushings for less maintenance. If they work, then who cares about the urethane bushings...all they do is hold the bar and let it pivot.

About to order a set myself

kenchan 12-17-2010 04:52 PM

should get adjustable endlinks too so that you can use intermediate settings. :p

i use their sways on my G and has been great the last 6yrs.

News travels fast.. yes we have changed the front sway bar to be 5-way adjustable, and those are shipping now.

We will make the front bars available on their own for anyone who feels they need the extra adjustability and increased stiffness.

What about those of us who already have your original bars, is there a loyalty discount on the new ones if we upgrade? :)

Xan 12-17-2010 07:34 PM

Josh, so what are the new specs? Did you also up the stiffness of the rear a bit? Making them a bit more aggressive?

Sorry.. the web will be updated soon. :) No the rear bar is the same, and the combination of these two should give you a tremendous amount of flexibility to balance the car out. I know there are some posts calling our rear bar not stiff enough, but sways work in a combination with all suspension components, and can be adjusted multiple ways to dial in a vehicle. I really need to sit down with Steve Millen and get him to brain dump on suspension and get some information put together..

I'm sorry.. didn't mean it like that. I actually hadn't heard from our production department that they were ready and shipping.. Marketing found out a little late. Unusual, but it happens. :)

PM me, we do have these available separately.

gpa7pk 12-18-2010 12:57 PM

Ordered the new Stillen 5 way adjustable front sway. They are priced at a couple of pennies shy of $170 plus their standard free shipping and $9.95 handling/insurance.

I'm sure Josh will post the new stiffness percentages per adjustment.

daisuke149 12-18-2010 05:01 PM

170? you mean each bar lol.

but I had mine put in today.. they looked awesome. unfortunately due to wheel/tire conundrum.. I cannot fully test out the new suspension.

gpa7pk 12-18-2010 07:59 PM

If you already have the set then the replacement front bar is $170. Its not a great deal but it is fair.

daisuke149 12-18-2010 09:20 PM

ahh gotcha.

gpa7pk 12-26-2010 09:16 PM

Installed the Stillen adjustable front sway bar and the fit and finish are great. I went with the most agressive position, third hole from the end. The only item missing is the five adjustment values from Stillen. I will take the Z off of the rack this week for a "drive" to get a feel.

Josh@STILLEN 12-27-2010 10:04 AM

Glad the installation went good.. In regards to the 5-way adjustability, that's done with 3 holes.. here's a diagram:

http://www.stillen.com/media_files/5...bleDiagram.jpg

Because the bar is being flexed torsionally, you can mix the holes..

Thanks and can you tell us the percentage over OEM for the five adjustments?

Josh@STILLEN 12-27-2010 10:31 AM

Sure.. I'll look into getting the numbers.

&*^$*&^%!!!! Figure's they'd get better/cheaper three months after I got mine..... grrrr. First adopters always pay the big bucks for the new stuff before it's optimized. Never seem to learn that lesson...

So any new update on this?? Im debating if I should get this or whiteline sway bar

Da.Menace 04-12-2011 02:44 PM

BTW is this a solid bar or hollow/tubular?

BLM 04-12-2011 02:50 PM

anyone experiment with different settings with an otherwise stock suspension?

Hollow, look at the picture Josh posted of the Bars. You can see that the ends of the rear bar are just flattened parts of the tube.

Justin1686 04-27-2011 08:44 PM

this is more regarding the rear bar. but I dont want to start a brand new thread yet. But i got my front and rear bars installed. the front feels perfect. i put the rear on the softest setting, as i'm never going to track it, its on regular roads maybe 2-4 times a week. but when i go over slight bumps, best example, a sewer cap with the 1/4 inch drop on the road, it feels like my car is about to fishtail.

thats the best description i have for it. there is no way this is correct? do any of you feel this with your rear? or am i just not used to the sway bar yet?
