There's not that much difference in the front application, will mostly depend on rotor size. For the rear application the significant difference will be what material the hat is made out of, iron or aluminum. The rear hats are often iron for e-brake durability.

While weight savings is a nice thing, especially unsprung weight, make sure you get one that can take the track abuse. If you're not tracking then unsprung really doesn't mean much.

What is the point of this poll? Who cares what someone's opinion on which BBK is the lightest?

Wouldn't it make more sense to just have a thread where people weigh their brake kits and post the numbers?

And remember - the weight of your caliper and pads DO NOT contribute to rotating mass of the system - its just the rotors / wheels / tires... so lets not get too carried away with weighing our BBKs lol...

Not to mention - you probably want a reasonably heavy setup if you are going to the track - as thin metal + high heat / pressure = warp

Agreed, its not really a matter of opinion. If opinions could shed weight off of a car, racing would be a lot cheaper.

not sure if this helps, but i ran endless bbk (6/4, 345mm/325mm*i think) and project mu bbk (6/4, 355mm/345mm) on my 350 and the project mu kit was: lighter (cuz the rotors weren't as thick), more responsive, and cheaper.

i'm running the pmu kit i had on my 350, on the 370 ...thanks to a pmu conversion kit

Ok - so maybe you are getting "negative" comments because you made a poll out of something thats fact. Its like making a poll to see whats heavier - 10lbs or 20lbs or 30lbs - if your question was - which one is better and why - then thats a different story.

Honestly - shaving weight off your brakes isnt gonna do all that much unless you track your car like travisJB does - and even if you do - you probably want a nice hefty rotor which can handle a lot of abuse from a track pad in high heat - and historically - the lighter your rotor the thinner it is and the thinner it is - the more crappy it is on a track etc etc.

A lot of people seem to be weighing the caliper / pad / rotor combo and they see that they saved 2 lbs over stock and they rejoice that they are saving unsprung weight - this is not true - only your rotor turns in that assembly.

Not bashing your thread but just saying - if you gonna make it be about opinions then polls make sense - but when you can measure these rotors and see which ones weigh the most - makes no sense to make a poll

It's all unsprung weight, the entire mass that moves with the wheel assembly is counted. Rotating mass is just the wheel, the hub and rotor. Reducing rotating mass helps accelation, reducing unsprung weight helps the suspension responsiveness.

But as you pointed out you can't really make a poll out of this. Asking for factual information would be far more useful.

thanks for your answers guys. I appreciate it..

for ppl who would like to comment without looking at poll is good
for ppl who would like to add something to the poll is good too

so either way its all good

and no im not going to track my car.. but i heard that i need better brakes when i go F.I
and i dont wanna end up buying a BBK that are heavier than my stocky

so what ill do is have 2 point in 1 thing
1st, buy better bbk
2nd, shave unsprung weight as much as possible from BBK..

Thanks

Does the G37 S have the same Akebonos as the sport package Zs? If so then you don't need to upgrade your brakes as those will be plenty good enough. You could just upgrade the pads, fluid, and lines and be all set.

Yep, same brakes. And those upgrades really do help but sometimes you need more.

No you don't need a BBK just because you upgraded power. Upgraded power does not necessarily imply that you are traveling at higher speeds, you can just get there more quickly.

But do you need more? Considering you say you don't track your car, I really doubt that you do!
