Last I heard they had a lot of projects on their plate, thats probably why they are taking a while...

Time to bump this thread as track season is upon us. Any progress in this area?

I have access to a very basic lathe and milling machine (not cnc). I bought a big chunk of black Delrin and am going to have at it in the next two weeks.............................just got tired of waiting and really hate the look of the DIY stuff so far.
Stuff to make: 2xInterface pieces to OEM front grill with the two pieces removed....will utilize OEM fastner location at top. 2xflange to penetrate fenderwell liner 2xflange/duct to target back side of rotors without interfering with wheel movement Not sure how long this will take but will hopefully be able to knock it out within a month..

I was thinking of going with a 3 inch intake, 2-inch reducer (increase air velocity and make it easier to route the duct) and then figuring out a solution for the hub.

A couple of us will be pursuing another idea which entails removing the rubber air deflector in front of each wheel and glassing rectangular (NACA-like) pickups to bolt in their place. This will avoid cutting the fender liner and will be easily removable for when you're not at the track.
I'd bet good money that Stillen's stupid kit will require their front fascia and somehow incorporate their fascia side vents.

can we fit an angled backing plate for cooling? ive given the brake duct thing a shot but called it quits due to the lack of space and the lack of ambition in cutting up fender wells and crap. I got the idea from an old lexus i had in my shop a week ago. It had big, angled backing plates behind the rotors that were obviously designed to channel air. just an observation, but it may lead to something.

Where would you initiate the 3" intake? Popping out the pieces outboard of the fangs without additional cutting is what I'm going for to keep the look clean….possibly would minimize the flow performance though? I was going to reduce the x-section area from the fender liner flange to the end of the duct nearest the rotor to increase the velocity. This is not going to be a quick turn around based on my current schedule but I'll show pics when I'm closer.

Putting the reducer at the fender liner would be a good place for it, there seems to be enough room up to that point for the 3" duct.

I received info from "Deep Throat" at Stillen that the 370Z brake cooling duct system/kit is not in progess as the feeling is the market is perceived to be too soft to pursue.
Sure hope someone comes up the good solution. |
