The Stillen pads are probably good for street use. Do they have any temp ratings available? Their rotors are nice. Well priced too.

I can do the Stoptech slotted for $500 front/rear shipped. Super good deal. The Stillens will prob cost about $700 or so all around. I didnt notice temp ratings on the pads, ill have to check. Those Stillen slotteds look good on your Stang

bump! looking to upgrade brakes. What do you guys recommend as far as pads? I need something better that stock to hold TT power but nothing too noisy. Not planning on tracking anytime soon. I mainly want something that wont fade at ZdayZ.
Has any body had experience with the Stillen metal matrix pads?

You mean for Tail of the Dragon? You should get some good brake-cooling windows between hard hits there I think, all total 11 miles is a good deal shorter than the average HPDE session, and you probably won't be hitting that stretch at 9/10ths anyways in terms of grip and braking. So I'd think a high quality street pad would work fine there.
The only two street pads I've used w/ the Sports brakes on the 370Z are Hawk HPS and Carbotech Bobcat. Both worked great . Pretty much any track pad is gonna make enough noise that you'll hate it on a DD, IMHO, and everyone around you will think your brakes are broken. Ask me how I know, heh. I get "fix your damn brakes" stares from people at stoplights all the time now when they hear all the squealing. I can shut them up for a while with a light re-bedding, but regular street driving inevitably brings the squealing back after several miles. |

I made my XP10/XP8 combo smoke on my second run up the dragon. It's definitely possible if you jam on the gas on the little straights.
I would probably recommend the Bobcat as well. Quiet, light dust, and good feel. |

How about the B-Spec from poject mu? temp rating is a bit more than the bobcats at 500*C

Forged Performance has some of the best pricing when it comes to Carbotech. Everyone has tried to charge me 30-40 bucks more. Tell them Christopher Spohn sent you if you go that route.

I was gonna get the B-Spec but decided to save few bucks and go with the Type NS. Their temp rating is 400*c. Im expecting them to do just fine. See you at ZDAYZ Ron

Just got my front and rear brake pads replaced with OEM brake pads and the rotors resurfaced at the dealership. I'm having significant brake squeal from only the rears. Went back to the dealership to see if everything was put on right. They lubricated the calipers and the backing plate of the brake pad. The noise went away for 2 days and its back. I was thinking about getting the rotors replaced and getting some Wagner Thermo quiet brake pads (I'm on a low budget and can't bust out $$$ on some higher quality pads) to see if this resolves the issue. Do y'all have any suggestions on this?

Used Hawk hp+ pads on the track and for AutoX so far. I have rbf600 fluid and z1 SS lines. They worked great for AutoX and only had slight fade at the end of the day on the track. It was my first track day but after 5 really hard sessions they still had plenty of life left. This season I've added z1 slotted two piece front rotors and stillen brake ducting so I hope to see big improvements on braking consistency. My stock rotors may have been scored and very slightly warped due to the track session but they don't feel terrible. Just wouldn't want to risk it on another track day. I'll definitely report back once I try the new setup!

It's been my experience that your first several track days are the worst ones on brakes, and then the abuse you're putting into the brake system slowly goes down over time, as you learn to brake harder over shorter lengths. Early on you're dragging out your braking - starting too early and not hitting them hard enough either. Either way you might still have a total braking speed reduction from say 90mph to 40mph, but the less distance you take to get it done, the less excess heat you build up.
I guess the very very first track days might be a little easier on them because you're not carrying as much speed to shed in the first place, so maybe it's more like a curve that spikes up quickly at the beginning and then slowly tapers off over time. |
