KW Adjusting height
just wanted to confirm this..
to lower the height on KW3's you adjust the collar upwards to lower the car? Made sense to me as to compress the spring, but after adjustment, seemed like my suspension was 1/4" higher on 2 turns..I thought I'd give it a few days for suspension to settle, but still the same.. So I guess I was told wrong? |
Are you talking about the rear spring perch? You want to turn it so it increases in total length, to raise the car.

I wanted to lower the front a little and adjusted the coilover so that I moved the collar "upwards" 2 full turns. Im not sure if the co needs time to settle or if I should see immediate change...but looks more like the driver side is 1/4" higher instead of lower (mechanic said to adjust upwards as well)... Am I supposed to turn them downwards to lower? I can wait for replies before turning a wrench for confirmation and give the car any chance to settle in on the height adjustment... |
you turn the collar so that it is lower on the threads. It was the same on my s2000. I have HKS for the 370z now and I still do the same thing. to lower the car the collar must go lower on the threads in other words turn the collar to the left.

Thanks for confirming and will work on it when I get home tonight.. I know that going from setting 8 to 10 on the rebound (top adjuster) made the ride less jittery on uneven surfaces for some reason...I would think stiffer = more worse on rippled surfaces.... Dont know how to get to the top adjust on the rear yet...couldnt get the interior panel off. Ill figure it out later... |
I belive you should have 2 collars. The one beneath the spring is not touched. The collar farther down you loosen then move upward then you twist the shocks until you close the gap you just created. Then with the wrench you lock the collar. You will see an instant drop. Coilovers don't really need time to settle.

One collar only on KW's, they dont allow separate pre-load and height adjustment. As others have said move the collar down to lower the car, up to raise the car. |

Going to do some adjustments on the ride height for front. Going +8 or compression and +10 on the rebound is great for a DD. Stiff ride, but not jarring on bumps and still smooth... |
As far as rear top adjustments I just cut a 2" circular hole in my panels and it looks professionally done :)
Remember when adjusting these coilovers that you have seperated rebound and compression so by adjusting to a stiffer rebound resulted in a smoother ride prob means your compression is too stiff. The thing I loved about my kw's and that I miss with these hks is the ability for me to dial in the suspension to my likings instead of a preset... :( hmmmm maybe I should sell my hks and get kw's with the hls system... |
