Thanks for the update Chris. The list I posted is just copied from one of the links and it's fairly dated. Keep the updates coming...

PRF --
Dry boiling point: 617°F / 325°C
Wet boiling point: 399°F / 204°C
MSRP: US$29.99/500mL (16.9 oz.)

Also, your AP 600 specs are slightly out of date. They should read:

AP600 --
Dry boiling point: 594°F / 312°C
Wet boiling point: 399°F / 204°C
MSRP: US$22.95/500mL (16.9 oz.)

And, for street and occasional track day use, there is the AP Racing Formula 5.1 --
Dry boiling point: 516°F / 269°C
Wet boiling point: 369°F / 187°C
MSRP: US$12.75/500mL (16.9 oz.)

This is awesome information. Another comparison that should be added is where does the Nissan OEM brake fluid fit into this chart - Performance / Cost?

The stock fluid probably rates pretty low. Nissan does sell a high temp fluid marketed at the GT-R, no idea on price. However I seriously doubt that Nissan manufactures the fluid, likely bought from another manufacturer wholesale and packaged.

Have any of you guys heard of ATE super blue racing brake fluid, its german. I am starting to track my honda and the brakes were awesome out on the track with this stuff no fade of anykind. Just curious if any of you guys thought about this for the Z.

Edit: my bad just finished readin whole thread. I like ATE super blue just curious if anyone has it in their Z and how it feels.

I've used it, and it is a good step up from stock (also the ATE Type 200 Gold). The main benefit is being able to see the fluid change color when bleeding. It is good value for money as well.

I had to step up to Motul 600/ AP 600 when the caliper temperatures starting getting to 500F.

I just completed a brake line swap and switched to ATE super blue. I would agree with ChrisSlickX and say that it is good value. 1L bottle for $12.99
Used just under 1L to complete the swap and bleed the lines. (Encountered a few air bubbles on the inside chamber in the rear right caliper
The SS brake lines are a huge improvement of the OEM brake lines. Certainly look at this if you are going to change the fluid anyways.

Thought I'd throw my experience with AP Racing Brake fluid. May go by a differnt name now but when I put it in my Vette back in 1994 it was not DOT. Ran it for a couple of years including some track days and performed great. Car turned into a garage queen in 1997 and just sold it before picking up the Z a couple of weeks ago. Break fluid was still good in 2011. Only thing to be careful of was don't open the cap on your reservoir when the humidity is high. You can actually see the surface gurgling and sucking up moisture... Moisture = bad I'd say that 18 years service out of it was pretty good. Probably only 30-40k miles total though. Everyone was using the Motul 600 back then and it was great stuff too.

I used it in a Porsche that I had in the 90s to cure a problem with boiling brake fluid and it worked great. I had tried many other good fluids but would still wind up with a spongy brake pedal after braking from high speed. The ATE came in two colors, blue and amber, so it was easy to see when the old fluid was out when flushing the system.

As of TODAY... this thread is exactly 9 years old.

Have we covered everyone's brake fluid needs yet?
  • OEM = suck
  • DOT 3 = suck
  • DOT 4 = good
  • SuperBlue is not sold in the USA
  • ATE TYP 200 is superblue without dye
  • Motul RBF600 is better
  • Castrol SRF is the best

Don't mix any brake fluid besides 3 & 4.
Adding DOT 5 will mess your sh*t up.
