Forged Performance: TEIN Flex Install 370Z Complete

Just finished installing a set of TEIN Flex on a customer's 370Z. The TEIN Flex runs a 12KG (670lb) spring all around, vs. the 14KG (780lb) spring of the TEIN Mono Flex, which gives the car a little bit softer ride. I am running the Mono Flex's on my 370Z, and its hard for me to tell the difference in firmness when driving down the street, but a subtle difference does exist. We are also running the RE11's 265/305 on his OEM wheels with some spacers.

Here are some pics I thought I would share.

Yeah, it's a medium smoke color. Looks really nice.

I really like the stance on that. There isn't any rubbing ? Could you pm me the height from ground to fender on the front and rear ? Looks great !

Stock wheels painted K11 (Nissan color code) which is very similar to the stock GT-R wheels color. Since I came from the GT-R, I wanted a similar look on the white. Of course, I had Volk G2s in High Metal Bronze on the GT-R, but this color wasn't an option for these wheels as matching that paint would be extremely difficult. No color code to be had.

Rubbing is nominal on the front, but this is due to two reasons. 1) I hadn't trimmed the small protrusion on the front of the fender liner that covers the bumper/fender connection and 2) I have the front's offset a bit too agressive. I went with 18mm spacers on the front and in truth, 15mm is going to be perfect. I thought of lessening it by 5mm to a 13mm, but my measurements show this is going to be too wimpy. Rubbing shouldn't be an issue with the new spacers and after having trimmed the front liners. The rear doesn't touch anywhere.

I will post up the height from ground to fender once I have a free moment to measure this for you guys.

Great first post!!!! Hopefully many more to come. :)

*lol* No crap, right? :) No, no longer have the GT-R. Loved the car, but missed the build process and had a disconnect since I didn't track the car. I need a manual. Plain and simple.

i sure hope it helps out on the track. i just wonder if it's going to raise your car a bit more than what it is now on the Eibachs.

Mean look now! Cant really ever go wrong with TEIN stuff.

Its a bit higher but looks better, imo, as the back end is now looking more proportional to the front with a little bit of rake. Need to tow it somewhere for an alignment before I can really drive it though, as I had a hard time lining up one of the rear lower control arm bolts and wound up having to basically disassemble all the links on one side.

Beautiful ride. I love the OE wheels on the NISMO models.

glad the assembly went well. and i am very glad that you like the looks of the suspension. i would be willing to bet that the springs are going to settle a bit once you get it out on the track.

my exhaust should be here soon. can i meet up with you on a saturday or sunday for some powder? :)

Damn. Apologies. I forgot to get this info for you. The car is now at the body shop having headlights, tail lights and door handles smoked/painted. As soon as I have her back, I will take a measurement for you.

^ any squeeks/rattles from the Teins? I had a set on my Z33 (Flex) and they had this annoying squeek from the rear that I never could remedy. Are the collars on the adjustable rear springs all aluminum or is there a rubber material to absorb some NVH?

Totally 100% silent. Love em...we've installed two sets so far and dead silent. :)

Stormcrow,

How is the ride compared to the stock Nismo? Is the sway/cornering the same? When braking, same amount of nose-dive/travel?

I guess what I am pursuing is, 'Do you have the same performance (if not better) with the coil-overs WITHOUT the bumpy/harsh ride of the stock Nismo?'

Thanks.

The ride is less kidney bruising. Depending on how you adjust the damper settings, it can be very smooth or very stiff...but, still not as 'bouncy' as the stock Nismo suspension.

The sway is the same, but this won't be controlled by coilovers; you need sway bars to help here. Cornering is spectacular, but I really can't compare it to the OEM Nismos because I only had 100 miles on the car when I took them off. I had never put the car into a hard turn. Same goes for nose travel on hard braking. I can't compare the two.

If I had to *guess* on performance comparison, then I would say the Teins would win hands down. The shocks on the OEM Nismo are made by Tokico. Though excellent quality, I don't think they can compare to the Tein Flex setup.

Hope this helps you a bit.

cab83_750 02-12-2010 06:37 PM

Thank you for the honest review. I was hoping that you had a lot of miles on the stock before the switch. It does take a lot of miles to really be qualified in making a comparison.

I had the stock and switched to the Nismo suspension. The car is amazing now and I don't have the intermittent hatred that I had. I am still trying to find an excuse to upgrade to coilovers but based on my semi-intelligent deduction, I do not think I would need c/overs for the type of driving I do.

I will remain open-minded though.

If you are happy with the Nismo setup, then why spend 2k+ on coils? I did it so that I could lower the car to the height I waned and have adjustable suspension for street use vs. track use...if I ever decide to go on track. Some unnamed individual will not let up until I do. ;)

Though not professional, Rebuilding performance cars, which includes suspension and engine, and bikes is my hobby.

Having said so, I always screw around with different setups. It has always been very gratifying to 'upgrade' then upgrade again and again .....

Looks great, I was actually at the powder coaters yesterday picking out color samples to do the Nismo wheels I'm getting, was looking at a gun metal too

Would you say that color is about the same darkness as the stock brake calipers, lighter/darker??

Also, you said you were running 18mm spacers, front, was that on the rear too?
I have 15mm all around, running 255/305 tire set up, you think that will be ok?

Thanks:tup:

I was just offering you and out... *haha* Trying to save you some money. ;)

But, trust me, you will like the coils better.

The K11 color is lighter than the calipers. It's roughly the same color as the 09 GT-R wheels. Of course the 10 GT-R is a darker blackish color that is probably very close to the calipers on our cars.

I am now running 15mm spacers in the front and thinking of going with 15mm in the rear. The 18mm was a tad bit too agressive and some rubbing occured. The 13mm is good, but I think I want it a tad more aggressive in the rear. But, my spacer sizes can be drastically different than yours unless you are running the OEM Nismo wheels and not the S-Tune ones from a dealer.

Cool, thanks for the info  So in the pics, you have 13mm spacers in the rear and will switch out for 15mm? I have the same factory Nismo wheels (not installed yet) and I have a set of 15mm Ichiba spacers mounted with my sport wheels.

The sample I picked up from the powder coater is slightly lighter then the calipers, it was Cardinal GR-02. My car is Platinum Graphite, so I just want a slightly darker shade for contrast. I think I will cruise over to the Nissan dealer and check out the GTR wheels for comparison. Thanks

Those Teins are definitely a consideration for a future mod, I just have Eibach springs on right now, but looking to get about 1/2 more drop.

For true comparison, make sure you look at the wheels on an 09 GT-R and not the 2010. And yes, in the pics there are 13mm spacers on the rear and I want to go with 15mm. I think 15mm front and 15mm rear is perfect for the Nismo wheels.

BTW, just take a look at a DMG GT-R...09, of course. You will see the contrast in color that would be similar to yours if you painted the wheels K11.
