Z1 Brake Cooling - Install with Pictures.
 
Hello Z Brothers and Sisters.

I'm not sure if anyone posted their install images yet for this Z1 brake Cooling Kit. I'll post it up and see how it goes. Thank you Z1 for a fine product to build from.

I have recently completed the Z1 Brake Cooling Install for track-day cooling enhancement. Prior to this point I have installed a Fuji front bumper and performed the washer fluid reservoir delete. Sorry about some of the pictures being rotated 90 degrees. Could not help it. Phone centric photo orientation.

Also to this bumper I added:

Here is everything You will need to complete the install on one side of the car.

First measure and trim the cooling hose to the length that will work with your cooling intake ducts. For me this is slightly more than 3 feet. I used the angle grinder to cut the hose. Then attach it to the Z1 Brake Cooling Backing Plate on the front suspension.

Route this hose behind the steering arm and above the lower suspension. I did not secure it here so that it is free to move around a bit. The Z1 hose is stiff enough that it won't move much.

I did secure it to the frame near the front of the wheel well. It also passes thru to the intake duct at this location. You can see the opening I cut in the fender liner to allow the pass-thru.

Attach it to the Howe RE305 Intake as shown. Also seen here is the 2.5" aluminum joiner tube I bought to attach the hose to the adapter and intake duct.

What diameter hose you use? 2"?

It comes with the Z1 Kit. It is the Black 2.5" cooling hose. Here's the link to the Z1 kit I used for this install.

Stillen kit used a 2" hose which I installed then converted that to a 3" hose. That was a major PITA.

I installed the same kit on my Z 6 months ago. The tubes are starting to fray and tear where it connects to the ducts on the backside of the disc. Just something to keep an eye out for.

I'll show this to a friend for his new Z project. He plans to track it so a cooling kit is on his list. The new tires from 4Wheelonline will arrive soon so he may want to have it done at the same time.

I was under the assumption blowing air on only one side of the rotor wasn't as efficient as directing air into the center cooling veins.

The actual useful part of the kit is a backing plate that ensures air blows within the rotor ring, so feeds more air through the vanes, vs just blowing on a face.

If anyone is running into issues with their tire hitting the hose, they can buy these pancake air ducts from Verus.

I used them to give me a bit more tire clearance:

Correct, it can cause the rotors to crack if one side is cooler than the other.

Gotcha, I didn't see any type of airflow direction into the veins in the picture above so figured I'd point it out. Thanks

Those intermediate flat blocks are a great idea. Used to fight with getting my ducts positioned so the tire wouldn't cut on another platform.
