Divorced style longer spring length
Hey everyone, I need a quick sanity check here.
My BC BR divorced style set up is sitting too low now that I adjusted my front ride height and put on new PS4S. Rear is 26.5”-26.75” ground to fender. I’d like to get it to around 27-27.25”, but the top adjuster seems to be maxed out. I’m think the easiest solution here is to get longer springs. If the BC Springs that come with these kits are 200mm (not sure exact length, just using as example), and I go up to a 220mm, that’d allow me to lower the height adjuster on the spring 20mm to match my current height. At that point I would have enough room in the adjuster to increase the height to what I need. Additionally since the rear motion ratio is ~.5, to get .75” of ride height, I should only need .375” (9.5mm) length increase at the adjuster. Am I overlooking anything here? Tldr; can I just get a longer spring with a divorced style set up to increase my right height? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can run a 7 inch spring but from talking to SPL..a. 6 inch spring should have enough range for most people
You said you have a spring perch adjuster - are you using the SPL midlinK/ What spring do you have now?

No I’ve got the spring height adjusters that comes with the BC kit. I’m unsure about the spring. Forgot to check the PN on it when I was under the car and I can’t find a length for this kit online. This kit also has soft spring rates (8k rear) so that might mean I need a longer than normal spring (compared to other coilover kits) to get closer to oem height.

Yep that’s what I figured. It’s odd that the spring adjuster looks to have at least 40mm MORE room to lower the height, which would mean this kit is capable of another 3inch drop in ride height. So probably over 4” drop capable compared to OEM. Who seriously wants to be that low??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You should look at the Spl mid links which have additional height adjustment
https://www.splparts.com/products/37...mid-links.html Contact BC racing to get your spring length. Or just pull the spring and measure it The contact SPL and check if the adjustment range gets you where you want

The BC adjuster has plenty of adjustment range (I’d guess ~50mm total so 4” in ride height), it’s just that they must tailor their coilover kit towards people who want their cars super low. I’ve got to call BC and see what length comes with this kit, and I’ll probably just order a set of springs from them with an extra 20-30mm in length Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is why you have to ask or look at the adjustment range before you buy the coil overs. Only a few offer the ability to go as high as OEM powertrix being one of them and possibly fortune (one rep said yes another no), stance and I believe arrogosta. BC told me no. So even if you change springs the shocks themselves may not be long enough to safely raise that high.

Yea these coilovers were on the car when I bought it, so can’t really do anything about that. Worst case I’ll have to run a bit more preload on the springs to avoid putting the damper length at an unsafe setting. Seeing as I only want about .5” more ride height, I doubt it will be an issue. I’ll still talk to the guys at BC though and see what they think Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Talked with BC about this. They provide a 210mm long V-barrel spring with their divorced kits on the 370z. Luckily they also make a 230mm long V barrel spring for g35 applications but I confirmed with them that it will fit on the 370Z setup. I wanted to avoid purchasing any linear spring adapters.
This spring length will put me just about perfectly in the middle of the rear height adjustment range with a 1” drop from stock. Install next week sometime when they arrive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wait is that measurement right?
230mm is just over 9 inches

Yup and they provide a 210mm spring with the BR kit. They are only 8k in the rear… pretty soft Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What is your ride height?
That seems excessively tall and soft

Right now about 26.5” in the rear. Seems to be not even a fingers gap with the new 325 PS4S and its uneven in the rear so I don’t have any range in the adjuster to level it out. I’m looking for ~1” drop from stock in the rear. New England roads are absolutely terrible… any lower and I’m asking for trouble. Doesn’t make much sense for me to mess with spring rates since I’d be putting the dampers out of the range for which they’re designed. Better to save up for a better set of coilovers in the future. I’m sure a 6 or 7 inch spring is fine with the SPL mid link because the bottom of the spring actually sits above the control arm plane. Whereas with the OEM spring bucket, the bottom of the spring is sitting much lower, thus a ~9 inch spring is needed. Plus with a lower spring rate, i imagine I’d be slamming into coil bind pretty easily if I had such a short spring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
