I'd imagine you have to remove the transmission but it might be possible to support the engine from the top while you disconnect the subframe member - other smarter people will know the answer to this. Dropping the whole cradle and lifting the car off it is the easiest method of removing the engine tho; and then you can disconnect the subframe with it out of the vehicle.

I replaced a front subframe in a G37 and I didnt touch the engine/trans other than unbolting the engine mounts. But I used a hoist and a jack to support the engine in the air. Gonna be a pretty crappy job on the ground but it could be done. I would find someone with a hoist and work something out with them.

Go to harbor freight and buy an engine hoist. Take off upper manifold. Get a piece of angle iron, drill it so it mounts to two manifold bolt holes. Tape lower manifold off. Bolt angle iron. Lift with hoist. Replace subframe. Return hoist to HF bc "the welds were subpar."

That's what I did, minus replacing the subframe, when I busted a motor mount and the other one seized so I couldn't do the trick where you lift the motor with a jack underneath.
