No one should be dropping $6k on brakes unless they’re hard tracking the car above stock power levels or doing regular car shows
For track people don’t they want to know stuff like boot/no boot, pad compatibility, all that jazz? |
I assume it would also be compatible with the new Z which may explain its release now?

I did some digging into these when they came out in hopes they would meet my needs. (I was hoping for a lightweight steel piston caliper without dust boots)
They are Stoptechs. Specifically an anodized version of the ST60/ST40 non-Trophy designs with aluminum pistons. Pretty much all the Stoptech calipers short of their GT ones come with aluminum pistons stock. They DO have dust boots. You can use the ST60/40 for pad compatibility. Compared to the Trophy kits, they are heavier due to having less material cut out, which is part of why pricing compares so favorably with the Trophy kits. Compare them to the ST60/40 kits and treat the branding and anodizing like a bonus. They have a 1mm offset difference vs stock rotors, but Nissan Motorsports confirmed they would still work with stock rotors if someone wanted just the calipers. They use the Aerorotors from Stoptech. I'd say AMA, but this is all the info I've gathered on these before I struck them off my list. Everything else can be referenced from the regular Stoptech kits. |
Yep, rebranded stop tech, and not the top of the line Trophy kit either. Not bad, But not as great as I would hope.

The GTR brakes on the Z proto are appealing because they are bigger than the ones and…come on the car.
They arent fully track worthy either because they’lll have dust boots and street pads and street lines and street fluids. We also don’t know how good airflow will be to them yet So…better than akebonos. Not as good as the stuff track junkies will want Also, I have no experience personally, but reading the gtr forums, it seems like pad changes are a bitch in those calipers If you owned a z34 and wanted a functional brake upgrade for hardcore track use, you’d pay Darkjak for his custom AP racing setup If you wanted a cheap upgrade for light sporty driving you want Akebonos which will be way less than the GTR brembos bc of availability If you wanted a cool brand on the spec sheet for show, you can get the gtr brakes or nismo There may come a time when the GTR brembos with appropriate brackets from the Z34.5 become cheap and available enough to be as good an option as the akebonos but I don’t foresee that for years |
Rotors: Well for one, if running this Nismo branded setup runs with OEM Akebono size rotors , there won’t be any heat capacity increase on the rotors. For heat dissipation on on the rotors, I doubt the ST rotors have any significant advantage over the existing 2 piece options.
Calipers: bigger than the akebono’s so theoretically more material to absorb heat. How they compare to R35 OEM’s? The Omori Nismo factory uses the OEM R35 calipers on their R32 to R34 CRS setup (send complete car to Nismo, restore and upgrade from nuts and bolts, very expensive). So my subjective opinion is that if these rebranded setup isn’t being chosen, I wouldn’t pay top dollar for it just to have the name. My guess is DarkJak’s front setup will blow this full setup out of the water, both on heat capacity, dissipation, and longevity (super thick pads). |
