Car rocks after applying hand brake
Hello, I have the 7AT nismo
When I put the car into park and then pull up the handbrake and release the brake pedal it rocks forward in place Similar to just putting the car in park without the handbrake and releasing the break pedal...it does that little back and forth rocking motion I did test out the handbrake on a uphill in neutral and it holds the car in place but just wondering if the handbrake mechanism is somewhat loose and needs tightening ? Anyone else experience this and is this normal or not? If I put it into neutral first then pull up the handbrake and then put it in park it is fine Thanks everyone. |
Sounds normal. The parking paw has to catch in the tranny.

There's nothing inside the handbrake assembly itself that can be adjusted or tightened.

It ‘ont sounds right :icon14:
Don’t recall my old one ever doing that...seems like it stayed put :iagree: Park brake adjustment screws are behind rear wheels...in rotor holes (I think), been a while since I’ve had one apart; planning to be disassembling one by Christmas Holidays :tiphat: |

There is a star wheel inside the disc rotor to adjust the parking braking. When I installed my long wheel studs. I adjusted my parking brake.

That sounds normal for parking on an incline with parking brake engaged (regardless of the shifter position). The rear suspension will move up (when parking uphill) or down (when parking downhill) caused by the effect of leverage in the suspension geometry. The amount of movement depends also on how stiff the springs are, but the leverage is the same regardless.
In my own practice of parking an automatic vehicle as follows: 1. Engage service brake and hold 2. Shift to Neutral 3. Engage parking brake 4. Release service brake 5. Shift to Park Number 2 and 3 can be reversed for the same result. |
