New Shocks, stock height for 2012 Nismo 370Z.
Hey guys. I did some digging on the forum but couldn't find what I was looking for. I have owned the car for about a month and I love the Nismo. I think the car feels great at the limit, but the low speed suspension setup is way to firm. There is little to no give and the car can get "bouncy" on certain surfaces.
I am trying to find replacement shocks and springs to soften the suspension while keeping the ride height exactly where it is. I am not interested in coilovers as I do not plan to ever adjust them for height. Most of the shocks and springs I have seen lower the car which is what I don't want. Does anyone have a setup that can soften the ride quality at low speeds while maintaining the ride height? |
Did you make sure the shipping spacers were pulled from the front springs? They are shipped with 3 per side. Make sure they have been removed. They will be in the springs.

Yeah I removed the front right wheel to look for any shipping spacers but didn't see anything. I'll check again behind and hopefully it's there. Thanks for the recommendation.

Yeah I was really hoping to find these installed, but maybe I just missed it because they are hiding behind the strut. I didn't check the other 3 shocks but I'm just going to give all four a good look today and hopefully they are still installed.

Well unfortunately no shipping spacers. Guess my search continues for a good replacement shock and spring. Koni has adjustable shocks but it says they are specifically for lowering springs. I think I might just have to take a ride in the sport package car and see if that is to my liking.

I know you say you don’t want coil overs because your not ever going to adjust them but the reality is by the time you buy 4 shocks and new springs your nearly the same price as a set of coil overs so it becomes kind of a non issue. It seems people go down the rabbit hole of buying springs then find out they need shocks too after driving for a while and then buy shocks and in the end didn’t save themselves any money. As for ride height there are some that can maintain stock height, powertrix for sure can, I believe RSR can and I think HKS and Tein as well. From there I can only speak for Powertrix the ride is firmer than stock sport but is also smoother in some aspects but like your current low speed bumps are firmer however I would not say bone jarring as I’ve heard the Nismo referred to a few times.
From there I’d really look at the total cost springs and shocks vs coil overs, also as you’ve noticed all after market springs are going to be lowering springs so you have no option on staying OEM height. Other option is just getting shocks which may be all you really need. |
Switch over the non nismo springs shocks and struts.
