Supporting mods with coilovers
 

Hey guys looking to buy some coil over soon but reading through the forums I learned that there are bunch of other things I need to get to fix the alignment after lowering the car. So far, if I read correctly, these are the things I need:

1. Front Upper Camber/Caster Arms
2. Rear Camber Arms
3. Rear Traction Arms

Are these mods the correct ones and what other ones do I need? Also z1 has a package, but I heard SPL stuff is higher quality. Is the difference a lot? SPL seems 2-3 times the price

SPL parts flat out works. The best quality. The easiest to adjust. They hold their adjustment. The most recommended parts on this forum. Buy once and forget it. :tup:

SPL has more adjustment range and much better track record of reliability, plus easy on-car adjustment. Its not even a question - SPL is the best option. Dont cheap out

You also need either the toe arm for true type coilover or midlinks for OEM type

Z1 has documented- self admitted manufacturing issues for at least one run

Oh, and the Z1's aren't adjustable on car. Gotta take 'em off. Oops

Awesome, makes sense. One last question, what’s true style and oem style? Bc and kws are like oem right ?

true style = spring wrapped around damper

BE AWARE - these two different setups require different spring rates in the rear. As they have different geometry, you need roughly half the stiffness in the true type as in the OEM type. IE, a 10kg spring in rear for the OEM type is about the same as a 5 kg rear spring in true type. There is math involved, don't ask me.


EDIT:
When you get the rear suspension arms you also need to get the Eccentric Lockout kit:

These are important because once you have all these adjustable arms, you want to use THEM for adjusting alignment. The factory setup in the rear uses two eccentric bolts on each side; these will slip and **** up your alignment. You no longer need the adjustment point so locking them in place eliminates that weak point

These are simply convenient to install when the car is up and you're doing an alignment.

A word of advice - do not cheap out on alignment components!!! Do it once- do it RIGHT. SPL all the way. The other **** is 2-3x cheaper for a reason. I got true rear coils and am very pleased with the ride and adjustability.

Okay SPL stuff it is. z1 seems to be selling it cheaper than SPL website, is Okay to buy it from them? Also guys OEM style coil overs are mostly all the brand names people usually buy right ? Like bc racing, kws and rs-rs? Still a bit confused since none of the coil overs ever mention oem or true style besides couple I saw on z1 that said true style.

Thank you guys for all the info. For wheels I ended up going with konig Dekagrams and dropped down to 18inch rims. I didn’t read that thread before buying them but I hope everything fits.

18x9.5 +25 255/45/18 pilot sport a/s 3+ (too much rain in Vancouver)
18x10.5 +18 285/40/18 same on the back

I just hope I don’t need spacers. Front wheels supposedly aren’t concave so hopefully enough brake clearance and backs are the concave profile.

They’ll fit. They will look ok at best. Those aren’t a very attractive design

You can much more aggressive since you’ll have full adjustment

Honestly the weight of the rims and price was too hard to pass on. Just gotta start saving money for some good coil overs. Any recommendations? I was thinking kw1 or rs-r.
