Akebono upgrade question
 

I have two questions that I'm looking for clear confirmation on. I feel like I've seen conflicting info, so I want to just ask in a straight-up yes/no format to make sure I'm understanding.

1. I ordered my pads and rotors from RockAuto. I'm thinking that I want to stick to the OEM brake lines. From what I've read the base brakes have a multi piece design with a hard line around the back of the control arm (I like this). If I stick with my stock lines, I believe that all I need is the shorter banjo bolts, and I can keep everything else the way it is. Is this correct?

1. My understanding is that Z1's premium stainless lines can not be used when upgrading from the base brakes; your car originally had to come with the sport brakes. Is this correct?

1. No and Yes. No - The multi piece design you just described is the sports brake setup, not the base. Yes - If you have the base 2 piston caliper and rubber hose, then you just need the short banjo bolts and washers.
Corrections: Yes. Sorry, I just took a look at the setup again and yes you just need the short banjo bolts.


1. No. The stainless line were made for the base brakes, but you can use them with the short banjo bolts on the sports brakes
Corrections: You can use them to upgrade from the base brakes, but you still need to buy all the hardware, brackets, and hard lines that comes with the original sports brake package. Sorry for the confusion, I thought you were referring to the old version that uses banjo bolts. I did not realize Z1 made these premium ss lines:

Another thing to keep in mind is that your stock wheels might not fit and you need to buy the bigger spare that comes with the sports package or else you'll be SOL when you get a flat.


I suggest you spend the extra money and buy all the parts to do the upgrade correctly, which includes all the hard lines and dust shields, that way you can also redo your rear axle and eliminate any possibility of getting that "clicking" sound in the future and you can replace the rear axle nut with a proper castellated nut to prevent your rear axles from coming loose.
