You are right. I was asking that for a specific reason. Pads do play a the biggest role in over all bite, but what I have understood from some racing enthusiasts is that when the rotors are cold, it interacts in one way with the pads because of it composition as opposed to being hot. The molecular structure slightly changes with the pad. That said, I am not tracking my car at all. I was more curious of the rotors to stay away from that have been know to crack or warp, being that I would be using it for normal driving. I have heard of horror stories, so I assumed this was the place to go to widdle down what others have experienced. I have looked at the Z1 awhile back and was leaning in that direction, but just need some confirmation.

As for cracked rotors. Stay away from drilled rotors. They love to crack at the holes. Slotted rotors are ok. To crack a blank rotor. You will only see that on a track car. And that takes some doing.

Thank you for all of the constructive feed back. That really did help me.

Right, i did get some aftermarket pads, just have to make sure not to get track/racing pads for a daily driver.

I know, they will squeel till they get hot and have very little bit when they are cold.

I ran YellowStuffs for a while. Did both DD and track days with them. Great street pad. But they do dust more than oem.

I'm running the Carbotech X10/X8 pads with the RacingBrake rotors. I have more bit and power cold then the stock oem set up. But they do squeel coming up to a red light or stop sign.

I have never had a drilled rotor crack on me. I however have not got them extremely hot on the track either. I run CarboTech XP8's all 4 corners. No issues on the street except when in cold (40deg or less) wet weather. You have to keep them up to temp by tapping on the brakes if you do a good bit of interstate driving where the brakes are not needed for long amounts of time. I have over 120k on my Z1 2 piece rotors on all four corners and XP8 pads.

Rusty, how do you like the Carbotech pads vs the EBC?

For track and some street. The Carbotech's. For street with some track. The YellowStuff. Both will dust more the the oem pads. The YellowStuff handles the rain better. Doesn't feel like you have to rebed the pads after a long drive in the rain.

Sinc we are talking pads, what are your thoughts on Hawk?

I haven't used Hawk's brake pads on the Z yet but I have had them put on some of my previous cars. They have good bite and lasted longer than the OEM pads, street use. I am not sure how they would handle on the track but they do make ceramic pads if you want to look into that.

I have the Z1 offerings front and rear with the sprinkle slotted rotors. The fronts were on the car when I got it, and fairly well worn, the last track day I did they warped slightly after 48 laps over the course of 4 sessions. For pads I have Carbotech xp12F and xp10 rear. I replaced the rings for about $350 shipped to me. I think if you track these you will need the Stillen brake ducts which I have on my car now, the steel factory rotors spread the heat load out better than the 2 piece where the heat stays in the ring bettering the chances that they will warp.

I did use a digital caliper to compare the new ones to the old and the new ones were .020" thicker, other than the outside edge where the pad wasn't wearing the rotor.

NeoDeo 10-10-2018 08:50 PM

I am not going to track my car. Its main use will be mostly Street a bit of spirited driving every now and then. My next question would be about Endless brakes as far as their pads are concerned. Does anyone have any opinion on this company and their brakes?
