Akebono Sport brake Caliper Pins

I have about 80K miles on my Z and I'm coming up on needing new brake pads. It's is only my second time changing pads so I'm still relatively new at the process. When I was removing the spring to check the pad life, the caliper pins were particularly hard to get out. I did get them out but the videos online made it look a lot easier. Is this normal for our cars? Do most people clean them and re-grease the pins or am I better off replacing them all together? I see Z1 sells them for about $15 a piece.

My guess is that the folks having an easy time live in warmer climes where the roads don't get salted.

That's a good point. I drive the Z year round and we got plenty of wintery weather last year.

some pads come with the new pins. I used the original pins without any issues.

just use some wd-40 and the pins should come off easily. you can use a small screw driver to turn the pins to free them up first.

What I do when I pull the pad pins is to chuck them up in my cordless drill and spin them while holding a piece of scotchbite on the pin. Then a light coat of white grease.

The pins should be greased before putting them back in. It's some special copper looking grease that's the "recommended" one I think. Otherwise, it's harder to get out. Did you grease them last time? I simply clean and re-grease.
