OEM Front Suspension Cross-Member Support Stay

Does anyone know if the cross-member support stay holds up anything? Like maybe the engine? I damaged mine (pic included) and now my car makes a rattle noise up until about 4K - 4.5k rpm. I was wondering if I took off the tray to replace it, would the engine fall thru on me?

It wont fall through. Engine is held up by the engine mounts. I've removed that stay before when pulling my trans.
