Z1 Upper Control Arm Issue
I've had the Z1 over control arms for a year now and oneof them broke after bottoming out on the inside of the fender. I replacedthe broken outer spherical bearing on both sides and firmed up coilovers. It rides about as hard as I could ever want a car to ride but at certain speeds it still connects with the fender. I feel likethe design of the Z1 arms rides higher thanit needs to buy sticking high out of the top of the spindle.
I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on a set of SPL control arms. Are they really worth the money? Are they the best on the market? Do they allow for more clearance than the Z1's? Thanks in Advance! |

This is the second issue i've seen with the Z1 arms. the other was the locking nuts loosening over time. There was a manufacturing defect according to Z1 and it was "fixed" supposedly
Never heard of a straight up breakage - what would it even hit? I have SPL FUCAs and they are superior in every way. Camber AND caster adjustment, zero breakages. I am fairly low (top of tire into fender), 20x11 +15 and 275/30 fronts. Zero clunking from any arms. Throw that **** in the trash and buy the SPL's

The replacements they sent me were a different design and have been done so far. The originals did like to loosen up over time but the replacements are tight from the factory and have no issues with. Where they broke initially though was at the dowel that goes into the spindle.
Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk As you can see there's not much metal on the edges of the dowel where it broke. After they drilled it out for the threads. There's not much material. The SPL is fast more expensive but I like to drive hard and I like peace of mind when I'm throwing around a car I've invested so much money into else where in the car. Mine broke same place and so have others. I went with SPL and haven't had any further failures. I have pictures of mine broken and another members also snapped just like yours. I would upload them but don't know how.

If you have the pictures on your desktop phone just do the easy way and go to Tinypic.com... select the photo, choose image size and copy the IMG] line into where youd input text

I've been having acouple of bad weeks so I did some budgeting (in my head of course) and pulled the trigger. I'm not driving the car until my SPL Pro Arms get here. I knew I should have gotten them from the start. I have Megan traction arms on the rear and Agency power camber arms. They might be the next thing to go name brand.

If you are going to track. The only choice is SPL. Seen too many others having issues with different parts.

If you plan on seeing any track time in your Z the SPL upper control arms would be my only choice. So many people have had problems with other brand upper control arms.

all I know is I finally installed my Z1 front control arms and they wont stop squeaking when I go over bumps, they sound like sh*t. They got lubricated as hell too. They even make noise when I turn left or right.
Makes me wish I would have gone with SPL. Making my car sound like it came straight from the 80s. Im not even sure if I didnt do something to them. Started after I went into a dip in an entrance way at a slightly faster speed than I anticipated. |

I've seen a car lost control, jumped 2 curbs (center median then onto the opposite dorection's curb), and alignment didn't change one bit. That car had SPL arms all around. Enough said.
