Disconnecting Rear Sway Bar
I want to temporarily disconnect my rear sway bar. I was thinking about just removing one of the end links but the bar ends are close to the camber arms and I am worried they might contact with suspension travel. What have other people done to disconnect the rear bar?

If no one comes up with a good answer, check the FSM (link in my sig).

A lot of guys on the track remove the rear bar, helps tremendously for putting down power on corner exit. I have thought about doing it as well but just haven't gotten around to it. When I do, I plan to leave as little evidence of it as I can, rather than just unbolting a side from the end links

A lot of the trackrats don't run a rear bar at all.

I ran 1-2 seasons of autox with just an endlink disconnected. Nothing bad happened. I've since removed the bar altogether. I do have 900 lb/in springs in the rear so my suspension travel may not be identical to yours.
Once you go no rear bar you'll never go back.

Didn't remember it being that close on mine but then again it's been awhile since I've had a rear bar installed.

To remove the bar I think I need to disconnect the muffler and the X brace which is why I want an easier way to temporarily disable it like removing one of the end links.

I just removed the passenger side end link on mine and I have had no issues on the track.

So I did remove the passenger side end link and wrapped the bar with blue painters tape so I could tell if it was rubbing. I drove it for a week and felt or heard nothing to indicate it was contacting the camber arm but when I looked at the painters tape it had been rubbed off in a spot. I do have a soft suspension setup with stock sport/base springs, Konis set to almost full soft at the rear and 50% at the front and a Eibach front bar. It seemed to only lightly rub and may not rub with stiffer springs or shock settings.
Regardless, I could feed in much more throttle exiting turns and I felt that even 1st gear traction accelerating in a straight line was better. I put the end link back on but if I go with stiffer springs in the future or find myself at a rainy track day I may pull it off again. |
