Question following my brakes inspection
Took my 2009 nismo in for an inspection today on my brakes after hearing a squeal coming from my back brakes. I was assuming my brakes were worn out and needed to be replaced. Following the inspection, the shop said the rotors still looked brand new, front pads were at 6 millimeters and the rears at 4.5mm. They said the sound was because the rotors are polished and need to be resurfaced when I replace the pads. They said, "they can't recommend changnng the pads until they are at/or below 3mm and the sound wouldn't go away even if replaced the pads, so I might as well wait." My question being that if I don't have to replace anything at the moment and save the $850 they quoted me for the pads and resurfacing, will I be okay to wait? I don't want to risk damaging the rotors but the squeal is very obnoxious.

The rotor(s) may be glazed. Try brake padding procedures elsewhere on this site and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, take some sandpaper to the rotor surface(s).

Post history suggests that Stanfillt isn't too familiar with diagnosing car related problem, I doubt he's going to DIY this.

I definitely would if I had the means to. I move and travel a lot as a professional rugby player so I don’t have a stable place to live. All my stuff is in storage in Washington so I just don’t have the tools or means with me at the moment

A legit shop would not charge $850 for new pads and resurfaced rotors on two wheels. That's an outrageous price even for all four wheels with brand new rotors and pads. Do yourself a favor and find a new mechanic.

I'd just throw on some new pads and then bed the hell out of them. The bedding process should take care of the glazing on your rotors.
