Oh, and by the way, Nissan wants $580 for them and claims they won't warranty the item. Nice. Tell me this -- how can they let you drive your car home from the dealership with brakes that aren't street legal? NISMO Brake Pads # Semi-metallic # Heat range: ambient temperature to 600º/700º F # Greater braking performance NISMO R-Tune. These products do not carry any type of warranty and the following warning will apply: “This part has been designed and is intended for off-highway application only. The installation of this part on a vehicle intended for use on public streets or highways may violate laws and regulations relating to motor vehicle safety standards or emission regulations. Additionally, this part is sold "as is", without warranty of any kind whatsoever, express or implied, (including all warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose). The installation of this part could also void vehicle or other Nissan warranty coverage, or result in otherwise covered repairs being excluded from coverage. Refer to an authorized Nissan dealer or performance specialist for proper installation.” |
waste of money, get aftermarket ones. Better for half the price.

i used yellowstuff break pads on my last car,
i was very happy with them, but i dont know that they make them for the z they only ran me like 250$ though |
I have had Nismo pads on my previous ride and they worked very well, but at $500 bucks, no thanks. They were only $250-300 for my G with OEM Brembos!!!

How much and often replace brakes/tires
I am very close to buying an 09 370z Touring with Sport Pckg. Concerned with tires and brakes cost. Am told that brakes wear out in 15K to 40K and tires wear out in 20K. Also hear that the 19 inch tires cost $300 each, mounted. Brakes cost $500 to $650 per axle to replace (two different dealerships gave these prices). Can I use a different brake pad other than the Nismo pads? How often do the tires and brakes really wear out? Also told I could buy Nexxen tires for half the price of BFG. Any and all input would be very much appreciated.

brakes
Not my first car, just my first 370z touring with sport package. To clarify, the $500-$650 per axle included replacing rotors. The brake pads were quoted at $225-250. I have since learned that the rotors shouldn't need replaced each time the brakes are replaced. So again, just trying to confirm that I would be able to use a generic or other brand brake pad rather than "nismo" pads. Another person said I could buy $81 NPN brake pads. Thanks.

In fact, if you're just driving your car on the street, the "regular" OEM pads will do just fine for you. In addition to the fact that the Sport package's staggered tires can't be rotated, filling up your tank with the recommended Premium fuel will cost you around $50 these days. If you're overly concerned about the cost of ownership of this car (maintenance and consumables), you should probably look at something less expensive to maintain. I've got a Mazdaspeed3 for sale that isn't quite as cool as a 370Z, but it's much easier to own :tiphat: |
Has anybody used "Ferodo DS2500" pads?? Seem to be a bit stronger than HP + (1300F vs 1000F) and some reviews complain about the HP + noise in daily use.
All four corners Ferodo @ $348 seems reasonable |
EBC? Hawk?

I actually have the Nismo brake pads, my car came with them and I didn't want to pay for them but at the same time, I couldn't take them off. Also, technically I'm getting ripped off because the price of the vehicle at delivery already charged me for the factory brake pads, am I right? But I don't even get to have them.
I prolly can't ask for the factory brake pads for the sports package now since they built it that way, but I pretty much paid the same invoice sticker price for them as if I bought them after wards. The only difference is if I bought it afterwards, I get to keep the original ones. This sucks, same thing happened to me with my other car, the factory added an OEM CB exhaust upgrade, but I didn't get to keep my stock exhaust system. Anyways, I don't have anything to compare against, so I guess it works fine. I've only been cruising in my Z, haven't had to do much hard stopping. I've actually only had to feather my brakes most of the time since I drive a manual. Most of the time with the way I've driven my car, the drivetrain slows my car down enough before I need to apply a lot of my brakes. Who knows, maybe when I start driving hard (once I brake in the car) I can let you guys know how good they really are. Another crappy part about them is I think Nissan voids the warranty of the car if they're used because they're intended for off-road usage. What the hell? Which is why I want my stock brake pads back since I already paid for them. I wonder if I bring this up to the dealer if they'll give me a set. I doubt it. |
