Z1 Subframe Collars: Snake Oil or Viable Shortcut?
Came across these the other day while looking at differential bushings:
https://www.z1motorsports.com/transm...r-p-12015.html The principle is simple enough. Rather than drilling out old bushings to fit poly/solid bushings, fill the gaps in the original rubber pieces to prevent less movement and offer more feedback. At first blush its deceptively obvious - if this solution actually works, why didn't anyone develop it before?

They aren't snake oil and they aren't the first people to do collars for rear sub-frames.
Their design though does fill in the inner voids down in the bushing where it can, haven't seen collars like that before. Viable short cut for sure.

Agreed, not snake oil at all. However for our chassis it is not needed as much compared to cars that have modular 2 piece subframes like on VW's and Honda's (s2k, vw golf most notably).
With this, it's more of a bushing insert for reducing drive train slop, this doesn't work in the same fashion as bolt isolators to reduce excessive alignment changes. which increases steering and suspension slop. In this case this is not a serious upgrade. |

I've already ordered mine, but I'll be doing a number of things at the same time. Their Diff bushing, transmission bushing, and doing the clicking axle fix.

Keeping my one little good eye on the product reviews.
Seems like a viable easy low cost upgrade to solidify the suspension. Don't know how well it will do for racing or drifting. Everyday handling mode... maybe I've got the Diff bushings, Engine mounts and trans mounts done with a notable difference in how more solid acceleration is and with much more vibrations in the interior.

Definitely report back on before/after and first impressions of all these mods. Have had my eyes on these mods for a while.

Installed these a few weeks ago. I like them as a mod, but as far as offering a truly dramatic difference, I haven't noticed that. I'm a little more stable with a little less wheel hop, and that's a good thing. I also haven't really been able to test the limits thanks to cold/wet conditions in eastern PA lately. This was a pretty easy mod to do, and fairly cheap.

I have installed them very recently, however, I am not sure how exactly it affected the car as the whole car feels stiffer with less flex (changed the bushes to poly + solid diff bushes + Z1 collars).

Installed mine this week but can't give a unbiased opinion as I also installed 11" wheels wrapped in 325 rubber which I only drove on for 5 miles before tossing the collars in.
