Brakes on 2014Z question
My passenger rear side rear is making a noise as of today. Pretty sure I need brake pads. Are they easy to change? I have changed pads before on other vehicles. This is for the Sport package too.
|
How many miles on the vehicle? The stock pads have a fairly long life, but the wear will obviously depend on mileage, your driving style, etc. I'd inspect the pads first ... if they're worn, it'll be obvious. They may only need some lubrication or it could be that you need to file down the top and bottom edges to prevent a "ticking" noise that can often result from the edges catching the rotor. To inspect/change the pads is no big deal ... especially if you have the tools and experience. Check the FSM for details. Of course, practice "safety first". Trust this helps.

33,000 miles. I knew it would be soon . I have tools and have changed pads before on several vehicles. It wasn't that hard and saved a lot of $$$$. Just wasn't sure about these as it has the big rotors (sport package).
|
In the past on other vehicles I just changed the pads the first time. And then pads and rotors the next time.
|
I would be suprised if the pads are worn out.
Mine were noisey too so I Just pulled mine off at 20k miles and they still had over 50% left. My car has been on the track too. I took the rotors down to the local parts store and had them skimmed (deglazed) on the brake lathe, and reinstalled it all with the original pads. Just have to get in there and look it all over. |
To answer your original question OP, the sport package brakes are actually easier to change than pretty much any other car you'll come across. For me, it actually takes more time to get the car in the air and the wheels off than to change the pads. Get a copy of the FSM and it will answer any questions you have.

It looks like they are. At least the rear one. What is FSM? |
FSM = factory service manual
Do a search and you should find it pretty easy. |
Funny as it sounds. Turns out a small stick was stick under my car on that side dragging the ground. Surprised how much noise that little stick made Iinsise the car ....Not a very big stick either..

The auto parts store said the same brake pads are used on all models. The same size I mean. Is that true? They ones they showed me looked small.
|
Absolutely not. The sport and Nismo brakes are the same but the base has different brakes. The sport and Nismo pads are rectangular in appearance.

So the Nismo and Sport use the same size pads? I'm taking these back as I don't need them now. But they look small to me
